Some new mums are worrying me

I feel very strongly about what I am seeing so I have found this place to share my thoughts...

Today I saw three separate incidents of mums leading their child / children out into the road to get into the baby seat fitted to the off side of the car.

In some countries it is against the law to get into, or out of a car on the off-side ( road side ) for obvious reasons. It is dangerous.

Seeing these little children being walked into the road just looked so wrong. Surely a mother would park her car to make sure the baby seat is on the near side ( pavement side ) to ensure the total safety of her baby / child getting into and out of the car ?

Whilst I'm here, two other things...

Baby buggies are very handy, the child is almost on the ground so no fear of it falling out of the buggy, and buggies are light etc... but, from what I see, the baby/toddler is facing forward, and cannot see its mum and is detached from its Mum. Add to that along the typical busy high street the poor child is at exhaust pipe level of all the traffic, breathing in all those fumes, and how many times have I, as a driver, seen the front of a buggy being pushed out from behind parked cars, before I see the mum safely behind the child she is pushing into the road.

Lastly, with the proliferation of mobile phones, I cannot count the number of mums I see pushing a sad looking toddler in the buggy looking ahead with no connection with the mum, whilst she is talking on her phone. The apparent lack of connection is hard to ignore.

The part about the sad faced toddler was a nice touch OP. Well done.

Not sure how going roadside to get into the car is any different from having to cross the road, but there you go.

I have 3 kids, please tell me what I am supposed to do.
Surely you are a troll?

TortoiseUpATreeAgain · 31/07/2014 02:44

I can indeed read three posts back, to the point where zoemaguire said that the OP was "ridiculously snooty, judgemental and self-righteous". No one has said that about you (unless you are the OP under a namechange, I suppose).

Toffeemoon - you missed a word when you read it.

So toffeemoon someone gets to come on here and be ridiculously snooty, judgemental and self-righteous, and if anybody dares call them on it, that is bullying?

Zoe was definitely talking about the OP, not you.

And me being wrong about why people were settling in to watch the bunfight is, perhaps, a matter of opinion. In MY opinion, popcorn/hardhats etc. signify that there is doubt over the reality of the poster. In YOUR opinion, that signifies bullying. I don't agree with you, you don't agree with me. That's all.

I read it as a confession that Toffee was the OP...

IShallCallYouSquishy · 31/07/2014 06:36

Oooh I've got an idea. Toddler DD is on passenger side and baby DS is behind driver. But what I'll do is get DD to hold DS on her lap while I'm driving, that way they can both be pavement side for getting out the car. Much safer Grin

Thumbwitch · 31/07/2014 06:37

Well there is that possibility, Jayne! Grin

ToffeeMoon · 31/07/2014 08:32

I'm the OP? Are you serious? Jeez...I've said several times that her OP is ridiculous!

The popcorn thing (cringey as it is) though has never been written to imply troll, always "I'm looking forward to watching this kick off." You know that very well.

Anyway, carry on. I can't believe I've got drawn into this. Really not as interested as I briefly was.

LittleBearPad · 31/07/2014 09:11

This thread is a joy.

zoemaguire · 31/07/2014 11:11

As several people have pointed out, I was very obviously talking about the OP, not you toffeemoon.

Dollybird99 · 31/07/2014 11:50

OP posts then disappears. Why............? What a fucking weird thread.

Dollybird99 · 31/07/2014 11:52

Sorry - let me re-phrase. What a fucking weird post.

slightlyinsane · 31/07/2014 12:11

You lot should be ashamed of yourselves, the Op was only pointing out some very basic bad parenting skills.

Let me help you all

For those with more than 1 child, you must purchase a roof box that you always open curb side. You choose the quietest child to go in the car and the others go in the roof box. They make various sizes to suit all families, an optional extra could be a torch.

Pushchairs
You should walk as far as needed to find an appropriate crossing, these come in various forms some examples include zebra and pelican, the best one is a crossing with a lollipop lady.

Children should not be placed in a pushchair low to the ground but should be worn about your person, Front back and shoulders if needed. You should then craft a series of mirrors to ensure they can all see your face.

Mobiles are a no no whilst in charge of a child, even if it's the Dr you've been waiting all day to return your call, you must not aanswer. Entertaining your child is far more important than their health or the local gossip.

And ffinally you must never put your older kids in front of the tv while you feed your twins, have a cup of tea and look at mn on your banned mobile.

The Op sounds just like my ............. Oh shit Op are you my mil???

Slightlyinsane - great minds think alike - dh and I used to consider fitting out a roof box for the children - we thought if you put in padding, and a little window at the front, they would be perfectly comfortable and safe - and we wouldn't be able to hear the bickering!

I am not surprised that the OP hasn't come back - she is probably far too busy out there, telling mums how crap their parenting is, to come back here and educate us further.

ToffeeMoon - you need to acknowledge that you read a post incorrectly, and that zoemaguire was talking about the OP, not you.

MERLYPUSSEDOFF · 31/07/2014 13:29

My twins use the sunroof to get out of the car.

MiscellaneousAssortment · 31/07/2014 14:44

I think the OP will be very happy to have caused five pages of reaction with only one post.

morningsarepants · 31/07/2014 14:51

WTF?
Just that really

moomin35 · 31/07/2014 22:51

OP My baby faces forward in his pram I bought him. He spends all day every day with me so am sure for the few moments we are out in the pram he is glad to look at the world around him. I chose it because I was on a budget and i trusted mothercare, a leading childcare store, to sell something that wasn't tantamount to child abuse!
