Toddler's hair 'thinning on top'

Hi - wasn't sure where to post this.
DD didn't have loads of hair at birth, but had a decent covering and by 9 months old she was well covered all over and it was starting to get long. Now she is 2.5 and her hair is fine and flyaway and a bit hard to keep neat. The lengths are currently a little bit longer than her chin but it's really quite thin on her crown :(

I've been careful to use only soft hair ties in her hair, and the usual toddler clips. Still I can't help wondering if tying it back has caused too much pulling on her scalp or something?

Does anyone else have a toddler or older child with hair like this, and does it tend to fix itself?

My son, almost 6, had thin hair on top and loads round his ears when he was younger. If we let it get too long at the sides it tuned into a mullet!. Its been fine (as in, an even length all over) for the last couple of years. I dont know if ties make a difference as we never needed them but its possible that like my son, your daughters hair will thicken up too.

DD was like this, she had the most awful mullet at that age! In the end I gave up trying to clip it or tie it up, and cut it into a short bob. It looks much better now, partly because it has thickened up naturally, and partly because of the hairstyle.

Thank you both! DD's hair actually looks fine when it is loose, and you wouldn't notice the thinner bits on top. It's when it's clipped or tied back that it looks a bit odd. I think she has a real cowslick also that doesn't help. I have considered cutting it into a bob Anathema but my sister has begged me not to - our mother cut her hair into a very severe bob for years which still haunts her Grin I am sure that your DD's is totally cute though and I haven't ruled it out. Anyway, I'm glad to hear that the hair just sorts itself out eventually.

Luckily DD's hair really suits her in a bob as it's so straight-she actually asks me now to cut it once it gets to chin length as it annoys her when it gets longer.

Now all I need to do is find a hair cut which suits DS1. He has a double crown and very wavy hair which he wants long. Trouble is that it grows out, rather than down, which makes his (alr already big) head look absolutely massive.
