Anyone know what Garry's Mod is like?

My 10 year old DS seems to be growing out of Minecraft but now has his eye on a thing called Garry's Mod. Looks similar to minecraft just better graphics. However, no idea what the usual age range is for its online games and if it is voice chat driven or text chat driven as I don't want my 4 year old picking up those really fun words teenagers like to use all the time to make themselves feel "cool".

I asked DS (age 13) about this one as I know he plays.

It can be played in single-player mode, which is very safe (using a physics gun, throwing bath tubs around, layering through rocks), or multiplayer. And on multiplayer, it's like every other game - it all depends on who you play with. At age 10, supervision would be a good idea unless you're sure he'll stay in single player mode.

Garry's mod in single player can be an amazing learning tool. It can reach about physics, mechanics and other things too. It also fosters creativity. That said, it is choc full of weapons and monsters and can be quite violent. As an adult myself I love the game Lol. I would say its more suitable for a teen. Stick with the Minecraft for now.

Its not at all like mine craft. Its a totally different game altogether.

However. It may be next to impossible to play it totally offline as the game requires an internet connection for the DRM.

Ah misread the post. OK he's ten, not so bad. So long as he's a well adjusted I see no harm in it.
