at all?

ds is 15mo and has been allowed to play with small soft balls. am foreseeing trouble when he gets older and stronger (and, ahem, the balls are bigger) and wonderr whether banning them completely is the way forward?

Oh yes balloons on the hall too. Usually have a supply from party bags.

calebsmummy · 14/09/2006 20:32

Bouncey balls in the hall and allowed to roll balls in the house, but no football or kicking/throwing etc in the house. I have 3 boys, I HAVE to make this rule or I'd have a football team running rife in the lounge!

Blandmum · 14/09/2006 20:34

no.

My house looks like a tip as it is.

If they want to play with a ball they go into the garden

We play house rugby in the dark and wet depths of winter - one try line is french windows, the other the sofa - no kicking allowed though, only passing, rucking and mauling. I join it and it's great fun, but we do only play when DH is out, or very engrossed in his study

nappyaddict · 20/03/2008 18:17

only soft balls, small balls, those mini football/rugby balls, bouncy balls and a big exercise ball. oh and balloons.

UniS · 20/03/2008 19:40

just try and keep on top of which balls are indoor and which are not. so far boy ( 2.0) is limited to nothing as heavy as a tennis ball or worse, indoor. Out door any thing goes, even skittle alley balls at teh pub or club. hes pretty damm acrurate with a ball pool ball to teh nuts of his father !

TheMaskedPoster · 20/03/2008 19:43

Only the 'birthing' ball, and balloons. Any other ball is banned for inside play (oo I'm so strict )

However the DSSs do need constant reminding of this fact

Othersideofthechannel · 20/03/2008 19:46

Tutter, I have found my DS has adapted to changes in the rules ok, althouth the rules don't change every day; more like every 18 months!
When he was 15 months like your son, we taught him to throw small soft balls in the house rather than toys that get damaged when thrown.
Then DD came along so we switched to only rolling balls.
Now she is bigger, they can roll 'indoor' balls or play with a rubber bouncy ball in the hall or go outside to kick and throw other balls.

Troutpout · 20/03/2008 20:02

yes

Troutpout · 20/03/2008 20:03

Only throw or lob or bounce though..not boot it about
Mind you ..i also let dd skip (with rope) in house
Don't really have a garden

This thread is from Sept 06!

Anyway - yes. Only with those small sponge tennis balls. DS plays football with them. He is about to be banned though as he is too strong now.

He loves it though.

nappyaddict · 20/03/2008 20:15

oh yes, so it is! didn't notice that!! maybe i should start a new one ..

PearTart · 20/03/2008 23:00

I recommend pilates spiky balls. They are very slighly under-inflated so won't bounce and not hard enough to smash things but they are interesting to touch and hold and roll and throw. They are harder than sponge balls and way more appealing.
You can get them for about £6 from the physical company.com. And at the end of the day you can give yourself a foot massage with them

CaurnieBred · 21/03/2008 14:43

We have a "rolling and dropping only" rule with regards any balls that are in the house. No throwing or kicking allowed!

nappyaddict · 21/03/2008 17:35

does anyone allow footballs in the house - leather/plastic?

Chipstick · 21/03/2008 17:54

Due to the fact DS4 adores being naked he is constantly playing and fiddling with balls!!

foxinsocks · 21/03/2008 17:56

yes to balls

we have a v light fabric football thing that is allowed but gets thrown out the door regularly by me when I've had enough

don't mind the smaller balls at all (though do cringe when the hard cricket ball comes in so that has been ruled not allowed to be thrown overarm inside for the time being!)

nappyaddict · 21/03/2008 17:59

what about tennis balls?

foxinsocks · 21/03/2008 18:01

yes, lots of those and the rubber cricket balls

Kindereggsurpise · 21/03/2008 18:04

No balls at all in the house.

Rule introduced AFTER DS broke a vase on the window sill.

I don't see why we should live in a barren decoration free environment for the next 10 years when they can go outside with a ball.

nappyaddict · 21/03/2008 18:08

we have always allowed balls in the house but my sister has just bought ds one of those plastic footballs and not sure if i should allow that or not.

nappyaddict · 21/03/2008 18:11

beginning to think i might regret starting this when ds learns how to kick!!

foxinsocks · 21/03/2008 18:12

problem with the plastic balls is that they are so light, they go for blardy miles so fly across the room v quickly. The fabric one is a little bit heavier so can't travel as far. Not that we have a big house at all but that's what I've noticed.

Give it a go and see how quickly it drives you mad and then keep the back door key close so you can have regular 'chuck it outside' moments!

foxinsocks · 21/03/2008 18:12

OH is he teeny tiny! Mine are full grown kicking children!

LOL then plastic ball will be fine I suspect!
