Sleep help

Ds has just turned 1. He went into his cot around 6/7m and slept in it fine although he did have to be put in sleeping, he then got poorly and came into my bed and I've not been able to get him back in his cot. I started back at work last months after mat leave so I've allowed him time to adjust to that change now it's time to tackle bed time. Naps are in our bed too if we're at home. Pram or car if out. Ds2 is due in October so I'm getting bigger and very restless. I also don't fancy him in my bed when I'm doing night feeds with new baby. I'm also scared he is going to fall out, in the cot I 'll know he is safe if I have shower etc.

Any tips for getting him in cot? At the minute if I put him in he just stands up and cries to get out. I really don't want to go down the cc route (as recommended by HV).
I have ordered some bedding and duvet to see if that makes it feel more like my bed. I'm not sure whether a night light projector would be worth trying? Or any other gadget? I'm willing to give anything a try. (Apart from CC).
If you have read to here thank you , I didn't mean for it to be so long!!

Get him a toddler bed?

SweetPeaPods · 17/07/2014 07:42

I thought about taking the sides of the cot bed but as he's only 1 I feel he's too young. I'm not sure if he would stay in it

How long do you try him in the cot for at any one time? DD is 16 months and has the odd night where she refuses to go in her cot. At her age I am happy to leave her to protest for a short while until she realises that she ain't coming out. It usually only takes about 10 minutes maximum. HOWEVER - she has always slept in her cot. Your DS may protest for longer because he's been allowed in your bed.

I think there is a big difference between CC and a small child crying for a bit because they don't get their own way. Children cry and it's not feasible to expect them not to. In any case, at 1 year old, CC is unlikely to work on its own IMO.

If he really, really refuses to sleep in his cot I second Iggly - just get a toddler bed and ensure that there's a safety gate on the door of his room.
