Random nap crying

Hello, my 16 week old cries in his sleep - he doesn't nap for very long maybe 30 mins but it always wakes him up but the odd thing is its not a cry I recognise? He doesn't sound the same when he cries awake IYSWIM!
It wakes him up and he will struggle to go back to sleep.

Has anyone else experienced this at all or has any ideas why he might be doing it?

My dd does something similar. It doesn't wake her thankfully and the cry is quite whiney. Usually putting dummy back in her mouth settles her straight away. I can only think she must be having nightmares but what a 6mo has nightmares about im not sure!

My daughter is 13 months and has been doing this since she was about the same age as your son. I've never figured out why, she does it at night time too but will fall asleep again afterwards.

Thank you, I did wonder whether it was a bad dream but wondered whether they dreamt at this age!?
Its a shame it wakes him but it seems he is not the only one so we will see how he goes, hopefully he will grow out of it at some point Smile

Mine used to do the same thing at that age, three months down the line he seems to have grown out of it.

I think it was due to wind/tummy upset, but I've no idea why, really...

My daughters just started doing this at 18months old.. She's got a bear she loves in her cot, once she finds it she settles down and goes back to sleep, not much help but nice to see others are going through it!

My 14 week old does this as well. We call them babymares. She has a high pitched wine for about 10 seconds then is back sleeping, she never actually wakes up.

My 7 month old has done this since he was 3 months-ish. I thought it might be nightmares and it made me really sad!! Usually holding his hand, stroking his head or replacing dummy will settle him back. He also giggles in his sleep which is much nicer!

Marking place.

11 mo dd has just begun this v regularly.

Wherehasmysleepgone · 17/07/2014 16:28

He hasn't done it today because he refuses to sleep properly but he does have a dummy which falls out occasionally so maybe when he does it next time I will pop it back in or just let him know I am there!
Would love to see him giggle in his sleep Smile
