Cleaning your changing mat

Not sure if there's a newborn forum or thread on here but just wondered how you clean your baby's changing mat after your baby has wee'd on it during a nappy change?

I wipe it with a baby wipe.

springbabydays · 15/07/2014 06:50

Baby wipe here too, after soaking up wee with a towel!

insancerre · 15/07/2014 06:54

In the nursery where i work we spray it with antibac and leave it to air dry
If we need to use it before it has dried we dry it with a disposable paper towel. Kitchen towel would work just as well.

When you say baby wipe do you mean the same one you clean baby with?

Yep. I use baby wipes for most of my cleaning needs these days. Grin

Soak up the pee with kitchen roll and then wipe with an antibacterial wipe.

puthyjip43 · 15/07/2014 07:46

I have kitchen roll on my mat at all times with the roll at the baby's head end (kinds like the dr office beds I guess)
When it's wet I tear it off, put it in the bin, quick go over with baby wipe and roll down more kitchen roll

Milton wipes are excellent.

HSMMaCM · 15/07/2014 08:04

Milton wipes when I'm out and about. Dettol spray when I'm home. Also a terry towel on the mat while changing soaks up wee and makes the mat warmer.

NickyEds · 15/07/2014 08:27

Yes springbabydays baby wipes here too. And for shoes, handbag, general dust, me...... I have some anti-bac wipes for wiping the mat down after a poo though.

ilovepowerhoop · 15/07/2014 08:30

I used to use a pampers disposable changing mat on top of the plastic changing mat and it helped soak up any wee accidents. Dont know if you still get them

beccajoh · 15/07/2014 08:30

Baby wipes, although if there's lots of wee I'll mop it up with loo roll first. I use baby wipes for a lot of household tasks these days!

ilovepowerhoop · 15/07/2014 08:32

www.boots.com/en/Pampers-Change-Mats-12-Pack_988/ - you do. I just re-used it until it got wet/dirty and then used a clean one.

boopdoop · 15/07/2014 08:45

I have a box of cheap tissues for soaking things up, and then use a baby wipe to clean it afterwards.

starfishmummy · 15/07/2014 08:51

Put a towel or a folded muslin square on the mat before changing. It will soak wee up if needed and then wash as required.
Or you can always put the clean nappy underneath baby before you take the old one off.

Politelydeclining · 15/07/2014 09:02

Dettol spray.

Baby wipes here too. There are many times I wonder what did I used to clean with before I had baby wipes????

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 15/07/2014 15:03

Baby wipes. They are so handy.

Our changing mat set-up has changed drastically as DS has gotten older.

When he was a newborn and almost every nappy change involved the mat getting wee'd or poo'd on, we had a terry towel and then one of the aforementioned Pampers mats on top. (The Pampers mat alone didn't provide enough coverage.) As others said, we only changed the Pampers mat when it got messy, and gradually that got less and less over time until we decided we could do without.

Then, it was just a terry towel, which was easy to wash when it got wet or dirty. (I thought it was easier to wash a towel than the mat. I know not everyone feels that way.)

Then, DS started wriggling too much to keep the towel in place and also doesn't wee during every single nappy change any more, so we stopped with the towel.

Now, we just put a piece of kitchen roll under DS's bottom when changing a dirty nappy and keep a towel to hand to catch the fountain and mop up the changing mat if he decides to wee.

umiaisha · 16/07/2014 14:37

I used either baby or dettol wipes too.

fishpietea · 16/07/2014 20:53

I keep antibacterial spray and kitchen roll on the bottom shelf of the changing unit oft accidents

ThirteenMeetings · 18/07/2014 16:28

Baby wipes for emergencies and then a regular once over with anti-bac spray or after any major incidents.

Shroomboom · 18/07/2014 21:49
