So dd is coming out of the Moses basket tonight and into a cot which is in our room for now. But one thing terrifies me, she can roll over!! Usually it's just onto her side but sometimes if she's laying in the bed with me she will roll right over face down, now I'm not worried hen I'm right beside her coz I'm always checking but once rolled she can't roll back on her own. Pretty much scared that something awful will happen tonight but can't keep her in Moses as she's now 6 months and trying to sit up and is very squashed . Please hold my hand and say it will be ok, I see a night with no sleep ahead of me Shock

Read this www.babycentre.co.uk/a419/sudden-infant-death-syndrome-sids

Clearly explains that from 5-6 months, once the baby can roll over, it's fine - put her to bed on her back.

What the last poster said. Dc3 is the only one of mine to do this and it totally freaked me out the first few nights. But as often as I turned him on his back he just flipped back on his tummy!

DS couldn't roll back til 9 months. I delayed putting him in his own room until he could as I was terrified something would happen. He'd try and try to roll back and then slump exhausted on his front, nose squashed into the mattress. I hated it. DD nailed rolling back much earlier, much less stress!

Not many babies stay in a moses basket to 6 months - once she's in a cot with more space she might learn quickly how to roll back?

DD has slept on her tummy since she was 6wks old in her own room/cot and she still sleeps on her tummy now and is 1yr old. She wouldn't sleep on her back so put her on her tummy and has always been fine. She outgrew her moses basket at 6wks so thats why she went in her cot. At 6mths baby should be able to hold their own head up so will be able to move head to the side shouLd they roll onto their side. Baby will be fine!

Well she hated her little cot, very fidgety all night (but she didn't roll on her front) so much so we put her in bed with us!!! Yes I know!! We could possibly be making a rod for our own back doing that but hopefully we will have a better night tonight with her

Once they can roll, they're fine to sleep on their tummies I was told. DS started doing it at 6mo and suddenly started sleeping deeper and longer. Woo hoo!

If you imagine a hotel bed, different pillows, different smell, you'd probably find you might sleep less well, but you'd quickly get used to it. I suggest persevering with the cot, she'll get used to it quickly. Took my dd 2-3 days and then she slept better than ever.

Took my ds about 2-3 weeks to be settled in his cot but we preserved & now he loves it. I was in the same situation regarding the rolling, & one night sat up most of the night watching him to make sure he could breath on his tummy! Which sounds really silly now! He was fine & has slept on his tummy every night since he learnt to roll at about 4 months old (he learnt to roll back at about 6 months)

Persevered not preserved!
