I have decided rather late in the day that I would like to do this course this year!!!! So this morning I rang the department secretary to see if their were any spaces or to just wait till next year and she has just rung me back and asked me to go for an interview tomorrow.

I'm really taken back as the course started today and I was sure it would be full, does anyone have any tips for the interview or is it pretty simple and OH My God what the hell will I do if I am allowed to join, I haven't sorted childcare or anything.

Ver excited but very panicky

Any advise would be appreciated, I am popping out now but will be back later so please don't think I am being rude and ignoring you.

Hi Flutterbee - CHILL!! I'm a nurse, just be yourself, and think of the reasons why you want to do the course - it should be reasonably straight forward (they'll want to check you're not an axe murderer or anything ), my reasons:

Help others, interesting, flexible work, chance to meet lots of different people everyday, etc etc.

I changed jobs mid way through my mat leave, and was convinced that childcare wouldn't work out at short notice - I started 2 weeks after the interview with the childcare of my choice and the days I wanted, so if its meant to be then it'll happen.

From the sounds of it you're enthusiastic which is really important, as is an ability to get on with lots of different types of people, endless patience (hey you're a Mum - no worries on that one!!) and an ability to understand what others are going through - some of this they can teach if you are willing to learn...

Good luck tomorrow, will check back later to see what any of the others say!!

Thanks for that Jude, I'm worrying about so many things. I haven't studied for 12 years, I will have missed the first week at least if I do get on the course, the college nursery is really far away from the college and I don't drive and its £25 a day which I can't afford so the only other option is my Mum who lives in the next village and DH would have to drop DS off their at 7am to get to work himself.

Bloody hell bloddy hell bloody hell

Hiya Flutterbee
I only had my interview about two weeks ago. I was excepted for the course on the day!
I had two tests, a maths type, and then english. They didn't expect high marks, just enough to show that you have a basic level. I then had an interview with one of the lecturers, which they asked why I wanted to do it, how was the course going to fit in with my life etc. They also checked my support system etc, good family, babysitter etc (I am completing it part time).
