...taking my first child aged 3 months on holiday to Europe. Flight is maximum 2 hours, weather will be mid 20's, what do I need to know, take, be prepared for etc? Am I mad?! Anyone got any experience or advice they can share? Staying in an apartment

I think that will be an easy age, no weaning to faff about with!

Take several full outfit changes on the plane in case of poo explosions.

Fly with someone who gives the baby a luggage allowance - we went to the Canaries on a package deal and DD having 15kg meant we could take 1l of water (this was prob ott!), the sun tent, beach blanket etc.

We found DD got way more tired than she does at home so allow for more naps than usual just in case.

Enjoy!

small babies are a delight to travel with
when they are bigger they become problematic
I am a holiday junkie and took all mine from 6 weeks onward.

The only thing I would recommend is bringing your own formula if you bottle feed. I didn't but my Sil did and changing formula ended in some very unhappy nappies. She also used boiled bottled water to make the formula up but I am unsure if that was PFB or something sensible.
I always buy everything else wherever I'm going except for a few days of nappies for travel etc. to save schlepping.
The planes are pretty great regarding extra baby paraphernalia on the flights ime

Take a cheap stroller instead of an expensive travel system as they get bashed about on the plane and are lighter to carry around. Make sure it has a hood for shade though, and reclines for naps. We also took a baby bjorn but not essential. Definitely take a small tent or pop up carry cot for the beach, as well as a parasol or umbrella for extra shade. A cover up swim/sun suit and swim nappies. Also lots of nappies as we found them very expensive in holiday shops and we couldn't get to supermarkets without a car. Sterilising tablets to clean flannels/ muslins/ toys, and travel hand wash so you don't have to pack so many clothes (this was probably the most useful thing we packed!). Obviously plenty of suncream too, and calpol just in case.
We took but didn't need: far too many clothes, baby float for the pool (at 4 and 1/2 months was too small for it really).
Maybe take a blackout blind if your baby is used to sleeping in the dark? Or a nightlight for night feeds in case your accommodation doesn't have a decent lamp?
Have fun!

Just to second what trilbydoll said, make sure you outfit changes on the flight, not only for baby, but a change of clothes for yourself too. I didn't bother to do this on a short flight once and DD projectile vomited all over me - I was soaked through to my underwear (both top and bottom half) and had to sit in a pool of sick... hideous...

Three months is such a great time to travel though.

Also, if you're formula feeding I believe you can ring Boots chemist at the terminal you're leaving from and ask them to set aside some pre-mixed formula so you don't have to faff with taking it through security. Sometimes security is good and only swabs the outside with one of their wands, but on other occasions I have seen them ask parents to open two or three separate little containers of formula and taste it. The parents were pretty annoyed because obviously the milk has to be discarded fairly soon after opening.

Picking up on what ch1134 said, buggies get pretty dirty (and damaged) in the hold, so I have a separate buggy I take (a MacLaren Globetrotter... although it's probably not suitable for a three month old) and I also put it in one of these bags before checking it in... www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=gate%20check%20bag&sprefix=gate+ch%2Caps&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Agate%20check%20bag

Have a lovely holiday!
