Chicken Pox

Hi,

Hoping some experienced mums can advise please.
My baby (8 months) has had a couple of play dates this week with another little one who has now come down with chicken pox.

My DS isn't showing any signs (no temp, cold like symptoms, spots) but I've read that it could take 10 days for it to come out if he has caught it.

I'm worried about doing our usual groups etc just in case but on the other hand don't want to miss out on stuff for days on end if he hasn't actually contracted it.

What should I do?

It can take up to 21 days! I would carry on as normal. If your DS shows symptoms then keep him at home. Until then you could have a long wait, and he might not have caught it anyway.

Yep, I agree with five Smile

Chickenpox started going around my dd1's class in September. She didn't break out in the chickenpox blisters until Christmas. She was the last one to catch it! Dd2 then came out in it precisely 21 days later, so you just can't tell.

My son managed to spread his chicken pox from the north east of the country, to the north west, Scotland & Wales, all because he had no symptoms or stops....some times it can't be helped if it's passed on. Carry on as normal Wink

Just to add that it's not always as horrific as you think!

I was dreading ds getting chickenpox but he didn't suffer too badly, maybe one night disturbed sleep and only a small number of spots on face and torso (about 50 or so)

Fingers crossed he doesn't get it again!

I had this dilemma after 3 of ds's friends got the pox, nursery were happy for him to go and if/when he got spots they would send him home/I'd quarantine him. Luckily he never got any Smile I decided if nursery were happy there was no need to stop doing everything else
