Started weaning a few weeks ago, dd1 has taken to it really well, in fact there isn't much that she doesn't like. But I'm a bit confused about portion sizes esp for her dinner, shoukd I be measuring the food in oz, at the moment I'm just judging but don't want to over/under feed her. X

Put it out and let her choose. If spoon feeding, wait til she opens her mouth before giving next spoonful. If still hungry when it's finished then give more or a yoghurt or fruit.

On average the size of the palm of their hand is a good guide to a portion of protein, another for carb and another for veg.

Babies are all v different. DS weaned at 5.5m and it was duck to water til about 14m when he became a fussy little whatsit. Dd weaned at 5m and by 6-7m was eating 3 good sized meals a day, and has continued a healthy love of food thank goodness!

Agree with sunshine. Just offer foid once or twice a day at most and offer it roughly an hour after a milk feed. It doesn't really matter at this age if she doesn't eat but it does matter if she doesn't drink her milk Smile

Have you found the MN weaning talk yet or read the MN weaning advice? Both are very good Smile

Jilted, you say offer once or twice at most, is this based on any advice? Not having a go, just interested! My dd.is 6mo and wants a bit of what im having, whenever i snack etc. Cant be distracted.
As far as BLW is concerned, i dont see why sharing snacks etc.should be avoided?
She is a.bit of a glutton already!

Its from the NHS guidance on weaning. Don't think its there to stop you offering a bite of a banana etc if you are eating but it seems to be there to try to stop this belief that children should be on 3 full meals plus snacks and dropping milk feeds as soon as possible Smile
