Wriggly 12mo - where do you change their nappy?

DS is 12mo and I've always changed him on the changing unit in his room. However, he is getting very wriggly now and so I'm thinking this table may become obsolete as he constantly tries to wriggle off it when I'm changing him. I'm not really sure where else I should change him? Where do you change your baby's nappy?

PULL UPS PULLS UPS PULLS UPS

PMD - pull-ups? Are they the same as nappies? Can I use them on DS even though he's only 12months and not walking yet?

YellowFeathers · 11/09/2006 15:18

smiling, I was using pull ups on my dd from 6 months purely because changing her was a nightmare!
Exactly the same as nappies.

JessaJam · 11/09/2006 15:19

Have always changed ds on the floor, and now he is 13 months and mobile (and stubborn) it makes even more sense, although have been known to wrestle a nappy on while he crawls away from me giggling or stands up trying to look out of the window!

CheesyFeet · 11/09/2006 15:44

Another vote for the floor here. DD is 2.2 and is changed on the floor. Pull ups are fab for wriggly ones - no fiddly tapes.

alison222 · 11/09/2006 16:20

Another vote for a mat on the bathroom floor and then you cvan use the bath toys as a distraction.

JessaJam · 11/09/2006 16:22

Oh yes, and I sing to ds while changing him and my atonal warbling is clearly sooo disturbing it distracts him from escaping for just long enough to whack a nappy on him!

Holymoly321 · 11/09/2006 18:25

Interesting... looks like DS is going down on the floor then! How much more expensive are pull up nappies? I currently use Pampers baby dry (which are expensive enough!)

alison222 · 11/09/2006 18:31

about twice the price and hold much less wee before they leak - definatley no good at night-time when they are little in my experience

schneebly · 11/09/2006 18:32

On my lap!

beckybrastraps · 11/09/2006 18:35

Yep, lap!

Greensleeves · 11/09/2006 18:36

I've always done both of mine on my lap.

fransmom · 11/09/2006 21:52

how on earth do you manage on your lap? my vote for floor and a toy in each hand.

have also wrestled a wriggling baby, dp laughoing until it happened to him

toastee · 12/09/2006 13:29

Another on the knee nappy changer here and I've never had any problems doing it this way.

I've got an older toddler still in nappies and even using terry squares with plastic pants I can still change him on my lap no problem.

Its just a case of being organised, I simply fold the nappy on my knee first, lift him up so he's sat on it, give him a toy to hold while I lay him back and before he knows it the nappy is up through his legs and I'm nippa'ing it in place.

Admittedly he doesnt enjoy changing time, but at least on my knee he cant 'escape' and the job gets done much quicker this way which means less stress for both of us :-)

KathyMCMLXXII · 12/09/2006 13:32

I've gone the opposite way, Shoobaloo: after doing it on the floor for 15 months I've just bought a changing table and customised it with a strap because I'm too pregnant to chase her round the bathroom.

Belo · 12/09/2006 13:50

If I do dd2 on the floor, she just crawls away. I use the changing table still but always make sure I give her something to hold. She seems to prefer a jar of sudocrem which she can easily take the top of and stick her hand in and smeer everywhere.... stops her wriggling though!
