Student finance and childcare grant

Hi, wanted to check if anyone had had problems being granted the childcare payments after reading the facebook page for student finance. I have seen some people claiming that they have been refused it even when they earn only 25000 etc. I am married with my husband earning 21500 and 3 children to pay childcare for. We also have 2 stepchildren who don't live with us, are dependants but we don't pay childcare for etc as older and don't live with us. Any feedback appreciated, thank you.

As long as your child care has an ofsted number then it shouldn't be a problem. The forms are fairly onerous but that's the worst part of the process.

DH is a full time student. We have Ds1 who is 15 and DS2 who is 3 and goes to nursery. I work 29 hours a week and earn £19500. We don't get childcare tax credits because DH is not employed and we don't get childcare grant because I earn too much. It's confusing as there seems to be no rule or formula to work it out, at least nothing that is publicly available.

This www.practitioners.slc.co.uk/media/692337/sfe_grants_for_dependants_14-15_v1.0.pdf has the full policy details and examples to help you work out what you might be entitled to. I found it by doing a Google search! Helped me, as although we have a low income its still just too high to be entitled to any childcare grant. This saved time and the faff of completing the form for nothing. Smile

Hi there. I wondered if anyone might have any experience with childcare grant funding.

My wife has just started a University course as a mature student, and we've applied for a childcare grant to help with childcare costs for two sons, aged 2 and 5.

After much heartache and deliberation we decided the best option was to go with a nanny, even if we didn't get the cost fully covered by the grant.

We've found a nanny via an agency and our youngest loves her and it's been a real relief.

But now the childcare grant people have rejected our application saying that they don't pay for nannies who are on a payroll with PAYE, but will only pay for childcare that comes via invoice from self employed carers. They've said that this is currently being challenged up to parliamentary level and the eventual decision may go in our favour but may not. Our nanny and her agency are both saying that it's not legal for her to switch to invoicing as this would make her a disguised employee as she cares at our home.

The grant people have referred us to some website where they say this information is, but we've both looked and looked and we can't find this anywhere in the info.

Has anyone else come across this before? The only stipulation for childcare we could find was that the carer had to be Ofsted registered, which she is.

We've already paid thousands towards care costs already, and we'll definitely not be able to continue to afford the nanny ourselves. I think we're going to have to find other care, but I still find it hard to believe this technicality is the case as I can't find the information anywhere.

Many thanks for any insight.
