Leaving the baby for the first time ...

I am going out minus baby tonight fit the first time...he is nearly 9 weeks old. I'm only going for a few hours but now it's come to it I'm really worrying. DH has been 'exhausted' over past few days and likes to cuddle DS on his chest to settle him but often he falls asleep himself doing this. It's normally ok because I'm around to check on him but now I'm panicking that this will happen while I'm out and that he could smother him (DH is a rugby player so quite a big man!) what should I do ?

Your dh will be fine. There will be some sort of automatic kick in where he knows he is the last resort. Normally, that's you, so he relaxes (arghh, I speak for many mothers, I'm sure)

Be assured he won't have a minute's rest Grin and that's all to the good. They need to know how it is... To have ears on stalks .

I'm sure he'll be fine. I know when DP was looking after the baby without me the first few times he was terrified of doing anything and on super alert the whole time. You can remind him if you want - though do it nicely, it's easy to sound like you are telling them what to do Smile Whenever there is something I worry about DP doing or not doing (which is frankly ridiculous as he looks after DC more than I do) I try and make a joke of it and say that it's me being PFB and worrying about it.

But please try and relax and enjoy your night out. It's perfectly normal to worry the first time you leave your baby, and I suspect you've found this one thing to fixate on!

He will most likely be fine, and will probably be worn off his feet when you come back. It's always frightening to leave them at first, but it's worth it (the freedom! The peace!) and although I've always breathed a sigh of relief when I come back, it was mainly being ultra PFB/PSB tbh!

Thank you for your messages! Had a lovely time out and we all survived!! I managed 3 hours away and DH sorted the feeds and bedtime (although he was still holding DS when I got home!) it felt so liberating to take out and have a glass of wine!x
