Recommendations for a lightweight stroller for travel ?

Hi all,

I am looking for a lightweight stroller for DS who is 21 mo. He is very tall for his age. We are very happy with our Uppbaby Vista, but it tends to be a bit bulky on the tube.
Also, we are going away to the Lake District soon and I really don't want to take the Vista.. would prefer something smaller. We will be doing a lot on walking in Lake District so something that can handle a bit of uneven terrain would help.

TIA :)

Hello,

We've noticed this thread is quite old and some of the product recommendations are a little out of date. We've spent weeks speaking to parents and testing out strollers and buggies. Read our buggy reviews for a list of the best lightweight strollers around.

Hope that helps!

Cosatto are good they are light weight a dream to push and fold down very easy and flat can get some great designs to

We've got a Mamas and Papas Kato which I like a lot, it folds up very easily. It's also got a movable/detachable sun shade thingy so if your DS is very tall you can just move it up higher.

I was coming on here to say the Kato! See I've been beaten to it, but I would really recommend it Smile

Babyzen Yoyo weighs about 6 kilos and folds up so small you can take it on a plane as cabin baggage. It's also great for public transport as it's so compact. Not sure it would handle rough terrain though

Uppababy g luxe! We had a vista, we now have a babyzen yoyo. For the full price of £300 I don't think the babyzen is that great quality, we've had it since January and already had to ask for new wheels and replacement fabrics. But it's very convenient and handles well. We got it for half it's RRP so I can't complain but if I was getting a second buggy alongside the Vista I would get the g luxe, it's very light, the lightest umbrella fold on the market, but great qualityand has the UV sun visor, carry strap, suspension, full recline etc. Uppababy quality is excellent, in my experience.

Thomson Fly wouldn't allow the Babyzen Yoyo on as hand luggage last week by the way. Their allowance (flight only not package holiday) is 5kg Hmm

Hi all,

Thanks for the recommendations. Would the Kato or the Uppababy be ok on uneven terrain for walks in the Lake District?

I am tempted to get a Baby Jogger, but really needed something smaller then my Uppababy Viata and I don't think the BJCM is going to be any smaller...

My friends Kato fell apart two days into a holiday, they managed to make it last the week but once back in thd UK it came around the luggage carousel in bits :-/

Dunno how many umbrella folds are good for bumpy terrain to be honest. I had an old Maclaren and it was hard work just on long pavement walks.

The bjcm folds much smaller than the vista and is narrower in parts but is as tall and when I tried it, it didn't seem much smaller than my vista, and wasn't as nice to push.

If you want a terrain buggy you might be better off going for something designed for that purpose, mountain buggy or similar?

Or just take the Vista? In the snowy winter two years ago only the vista and my friends mothercare xtreme pushchairs were the ones who managed to get through snowy roads unscathed, a bjcm, bugaboo and Maclaren did not fare well!

Paddingtonthebear · 05/07/2014 22:26

Go over to the pushchair forum here and ask about small buggies for terrain walking, there's loads of knowledgable people there who will be able to suggest good ideas?
