Drinking from a cup!

I could really do with a few pointers. DD is 11 months old and the health visitor has suggested transitioning from bottles to a cup. I have already been offering water in a cup for the last 5 months, but she has never had more than a sip or two! Mostly, she just chews on it or bats it away. It hasn't bothered me because I assumed she got enough liquid from milk during the day. I have tried pretty much every cup on the market, and we've had the most success with the really basic plastic beaker.

My worry is, if I take away the bottles, will she drink from a cup when she gets thirsty enough? Is this an absurd thing to worry about? Surely she'll drink before she reaches the point of dehydration?!

Have you ever tried milk in a cup? It may be the water that is the problem.
Also you can phase the cup in maybe leaving the bottle for first and last bottles of the day for now while she gets used to using a cup.

Hello, thanks for replying. Yes I have tried milk in a cup. At the moment it just makes her angry!

I was going to advise you not to buy loads of different cups, as I did...but I'm too late for that.

Maybe get her used to drinking water from a cup, and when she's fine with it, see if she'll take the milk from a cup.

DD still loves to drink her milk from one of these

She says it doesn't taste the same from a mug. She's 4 so I'm probably not the best person to give advice.

My ds2 (20 months) will only drink from a bottle or beaker with a soft spout and I've tried everything. It to about six months to get him this far. I tried only giving him the beaker but he'd just push/throw it away and scream his head off.

She says it doesn't taste the same from a mug.

My DH will only drink milk from a mug as he says it tastes different from a glass... And he's 31!!

I just went cold turkey - my DS was mix fed so he was used to approx on bottle a day but when I decided to stop breast feeding I stopped bottles as well and all drinks were served in cups - around 11 months I think. It is probably confusing if you are offering bottles and cups.

This might be the way to go Ragwort. I think Im just nervous!

Don't fret too much about the hv deadline. Mine was much later than that!

My dd is 20th shell drink from a cup at meal times but the rest of the time she uses a lidded beaker or she waters the carpet for me incase it might grow!

Well today I replaced one bottle with a cup. Let's just say, we all got wet! Thanks babytime, I have ordered one of those cups with a silicone straw. You're right Katy, I just figured, we either have the pain now, or in 6 months. Might as well get it over with.
