Mumsnet article on safety - mobile phone and laptop charges?

Hi

Has anyone read the recent Mumsnet article(s) on safety around the house? There was something about how mobile phone and laptop chargers are a fire hazard as they often don't comply with UK safety requirements, and should never be left in/on when you're out. This was complete news to me, how about everyone else?

I'm assuming this must also be a fire risk over night, but how and when do you charge your phones and laptops if not over night (my husband for example needs his for work in the morning)?

Does anyone know, does this also apply to Ipads, and is it still a problem if the chargers are original branded ones bought in official UK shops like PC World (and not some dodgy Ebay seller, for example...)

I'd quite like to hear your thoughts as I'm very concerned since reading this. Thanks in advance.

It was on the news last week about spme chargers being recalled. I always charge them during the day.

I think the leads on chargers are very short though. So I got an usb extension lead and that means I can charge the phone, ipad, etc and sit comfortably a bit away feom the socket.
