6 month old spitting out calpol

Just tried to give my DS some calpol via the syringe that comes with I & he spat it back out straight away! Taken it fine before. We squirted into the side of his cheek.

It's not urgent, he's got a nasty cough & cold and is having a rather restless night. But wondered if there are any tips because if he gets a temperature at some point I'll need to get it in him!

Go straight for the spoon and pour directly in one go. You may benefit from a surprise attack!

get suppositories.

I do it with them lying down.
Squirt it down the throat!
Some still comes back some times.

I used a spoon at this age. I was giving her fruit pot or yogurt and then would put calpol on the spoon and she wouldnt notice. She takes it fine now on the spoon

Thank you! Didn't think about spoon (silly!) he probably didn't like it being squirted in his mouth. He takes food, vitamins etc from a spoon so will try that ;)

We do it a tiny amount at a time, and just blow gently in her face - it makes her swallow it. I feel really mean typing that out :-(

I have found a way round this with my 5mo calpol refuser.
Put your finger/thumb inside her cheek and slightly pull it away from her gums, making a small space. Squirt calpol into this space and then (this is crucial) keep your finger/thumb in place while she swallows. The open mouth/finger in stops them being able to spit it out.

HTH Thanks

My 15mth old used to refuse calpol, she now has parapead which is much cheaper and cherry flavoured, she takes it no problem at all.

Mix it into his favourite yoghurt. Worked for us.

Use a straw. Accidentally found this when we were away and forgot a spoon. Measure it out, suck it up a straw, put your finger over top to stop it running out bottom. Put straw in mouth and very gently blow it out. Often it's the size of the syringe and the force it comes out that they don't like.
