Not sure hat they were judging?

Today my boy (2.5) and I went to the local seaside. We had been playing on the sand and then walked up to the prom for him to have a scoot. He was scooting 2m ahead of me and as he passed I saw one woman say something to her friend. As I caught up I heard the friend say 'oh no, I think it's cute'.
I am assuming lady one said something cheeky/judgey about my boy but I don't know what. Here are the options that might have been odd:
He had no shoes on (neither did I, we had sandy feet)
He had a clearly homemade shirt on
He had massive turnups on his trousers
He was scooting 2m ahead of me
I can't even remember if he was wearing his crazy hat or not.

I don't mind a judge, but not knowing what it was is driving me crackers!

Is a random stranger's opinion really important enough to go crackers over?

You know, it's entirely feasible that they weren't talking about your child at all. They could have been talking about another child they know, or even something completely different e.g. "I don't like the bridesmaids dress that my sister wants me to wear to her wedding", reply - "oh, I think it's cute!". Or, "next door's dog is an ugly horror" - reply "oh, I think it's cute". Or whatever.

But really, why are you still thinking about a passing stranger's out of context remark?
