How did you stop the morning bottle?

My DS is 11 mo and currently has x2 210ml bottles a day, one at 7am ish when he wakes and one at 6pm before bath. Recently he has stopped eating his breakfast (normally has it at 8am) so I think it is time to ditch the morning bottle. But how do I do it? Do I just go cold turkey and replace the bottle with breakfast or do I give breakfast with a sippy cup with some milk in? Or breakfast then a bottle after? He goes a bit crazy until he gets his bottle so want to get this right to avoid any meltdowns if at all poss! I am sure I am making more of this than necessary but my brain cant seem to work out the best thing to do!!!

You could try halving the volume of milk in the morning? Enough to quench his thirst (just like I have to always have a cuppa first thing) and give you a chance to wake up before the onslaught of breakfast, but not enough to fill him up? Then if you feel he's not having enough milk overall give him the other 100ml later in the day at some point?

My chap still has a drink of milk first thing and he's 2.5.

Does yours drink the whole bottle? Try cutting it down, or try it in a sippy cup.

Does breakfast have to be at 8 for you to get out? You could try pushing that a bit later too?

I swapped them round so DD still has a bottle, but an hour after her breakfast. She only has about 6oz now though (cows milk), she's 16mo.

Mine are nearly two and still have (cows) milk in their cots before breakfast. We have an hour between milk and breakfast. I would halve the milk you are giving him.

Another 2.5yo who has 5oz in the morning and 5oz at bedtime and - gasp - still in a bottle as it was a nightmare getting her off them!

I'm no expert but if they are eating solids well and brush their teeth I don't quite see the mad rush to get them off of milk entirely.

Having said that, you could start slowly decreasing the amount of milk so he only has a few ounces, or push breakfast back slightly. For example, the main reason we're still sticking with milk in the morning is it keeps her going for an hour until she gets to the childminder's and has a proper breakfast.
