What presents have you bought/we're given for your DCs that we're fab? Our DS is 1 soon and we don't know what's best. He's crawling and almost walking and loves to be mobile and busy! Thanks Wink

It might seem a bit early, but by 18 months you'll be glad of it, and for the next 5 years at least - a wooden train set. You can get a basic starter set in ikea for about 20£, used to be in argos too, and then you can add bits to it on later festive days.

ride-on cars are good too!

We got DS2 one of these clicky clacky car thing
For his first birthday. Actually we got it from tesco I think but he loves it. I second the wheelybug, if his legs are quite long, or a scuttlebug which both my DSs enjoyed at that age.

oh yes, and pull-along toys! There are lots available, some have interesting noises and what-have-you.

Thanks for all the ideas! The scuttlebug looks great. Does it last long? I also love the clicky clacky car thingy!

I bought this for DD1 on her 1st birthday on the reccommdation of a women I met in a park! She had 3 children and the 2 older one had bikes with them and the littlest one had one of these. She explained that she had bought it for the oldest's 1st birthday and it had been handed down to each of the children. It sounded like a good reccommdation to me so I bought one for DD1. She is now 3.5 yrs and still scoots around the house on it despite having a bike outside. It is still as good as new (apart for the topsy and tim stickers!) and as DD2 is now 7 months I doubt it will be long before she has it!

I just bought the scuttlebug for my son's 1st birthday (although, as he has no concept of birthdays yet, he may well get it a bit earlier...)! I found it independently from this thread and was thrilled when it was referred to here. The reviews are great.

Now really looking forward to it arriving. Want one for myself!

Toowittoowoo · 26/06/2014 09:59

That scuttlebug thing looks good for DD2's birthday, still a little way off but good to have ideas!

Smart trike or similar - mine got one for his 1st birthday and loves it.

Little vehicles that join together with magnets from ELC. In fact, any toy vehicles!

Scuttlebug is great, and particularly good for taking on holiday etc as it folds down so can go in a suitcase. Ours has been passed down from ds1 to ds2 and ds1 played on it until he was 2ish and moved on to his micro scooter (tip for next year's present!)

CharlesRyder · 26/06/2014 18:18

The micro scooter with the seat would be my vote. He will probably be able to graduate to the micro scooter format within the year.

I got this for my very active DD on the recommendation of someone I met at a playgroup, and it's been our absolute best buy. It somehow provides a focus in the room, and even now - a year after buying it - she spends a bit of time most days climbing over it, or just sitting inside (you can configure it as a square, which turns it into a little house). Other children who come to the house also gravitate to it.

It's worth hunting around for the best price. Other shops call it an Activity Garden

Treesandbees · 26/06/2014 21:40

Love the Activity Garden thing. Might ask MIL to get that for him!

I'm swaying between Skuttlebug and a trike. We have a dog so out a lot walking in parks etc. Would a trike be better as I can push him along or the skittlebug which I can put under the buggy until we arrive in the park??

Get a ride on and ditch trike idea. Go for balance bike at 2 then proper bike at 3

Heyho111 · 27/06/2014 14:52

Pop up tent. Best present. It last for years and goes from a hidy place to a cave to a den.
Trampoline great for burning energy.

givemecaffeine21 · 27/06/2014 20:16

Smart trike for DD's first bday last year. For DS (1) this year we bought him a water / sand play table from amazon. It is fantastic, but admittedly, I bought it with both kids in mind given they're only 11 months apart and DD plays with it more than him at 2 years old.....

I'd go scuttlebug / smart trike probably. He was also given a ride-on car which he loves....anything with wheels really! Another big hit (literally) was a little drum with sticks...and the sticks are good to chew when he's not bashing the drum.
