Confused about weaning!!

My dd is nearly six months old and it's time to start properly weaning. She already has baby rice or farleys for her dinner with the bottle but the whole process confuses me. My little girl absolutely loves her milk so do I cut back or give her the same amount to start with with food. ( I don't want to over feed her)

Tell me your feeding diary of your babies so I can compare if needed, thankyou xxx

Give her her normal milk feeds, offer food about an hour after milk. She will reduce her milk herself.

I'd avoid rusks though, they are sugary biscuits.

From six months and for several months onwards, I kept his milk the same and offered him bits of my food at every meal. Sometimes he tried stuff, sometimes he ate stuff - he was eating jerk chicken from the get go and still loves it! - and sometimes he just played with stuff.

Just for fun before one, remember. That little mantra really helped me. DS was breastfed so I just continued feeding on demand and kept to his routine he'd set. I seem to remember to offer milk first and then the food. Eventually they just start taking more solids/less milk and essentially wean themselves. Keep offering lots of variety of baby-safe food and you'll both get there :)

My daughter is breastfed and I'm still feeding on demand, if anything she is feeding more now (started weaning only 1.5 weeks ago) but not sure if that is related to teething too.

I only do lunch at the moment and it's about one teaspoonful of mashed veg, avocado, sweet potato, butternut squash etc. I think in about another week I will start to offer breakfast of ready brek or weetabix made with breastmilk. Hope That helps

Fevertree I remember DS doing something similar. He was BF on demand and he definitely upped his feeds once we started weaning. It's confusing because you think they should be full from the solids but I think their digestive systems are still developing and it's not about sating hunger at this stage.

He's now nearly 20 months, night weaned himself at 13 months and weaned himself completely at 19 months. It's crazy to look back on last summer and starting weaning, and all the questions I had and how exciting it was. Enjoy it. The look on your baby's face when they taste something new for the first time is wonderful :)

When they first start 'eating', it's really just about experiencing food - taste, texture and very little gets swallowed! We just started with finger foods. I'd avoid baby rice actually. There's not much nutrition in it and it tastes revolting! My DD refused to eat it :) have a look at Gill Rapley's Baby Led Weaning.
