My dd is 10weeks and is very happy sleeping in her cot but now she ends up lying width ways at 5am shouting because her head is pushed up against the bars!!! Although she looks very cute its no fun for her and I'd like some sleep too!
PLEASE can anyone help with this? Would a sleeping bag make a difference??

You can get those little bumpers that stop them rolling over - that could help.

I really like baby sleeping bags but they do still learn how to get about in them.

My baby is in a sleeping bag and we tuck the end of it into the mattress. He's still got enough room to stretch his legs and he can still roll over but he doesn't get turned around or pushed up against the bars anymore! hth

Like pudding - we tuck the ends of the sleeping bag into the matress - problem solved!

Ah - my DS is the same but at 19 months I think he's just a lazy little git who wants placed back in the middle

until 2 nights ago we used a towel rolled up on either side of joey - kept him in place till this week and he's 6.5 months so trying the sleeping bag thing now.

We had a slightly different problem. Our DD3 (4months) was shuffling up the cot (towards head end) during the night (as did DTDs). Sometims she would twist in the process. We found that the blankets tucked in at the bottom were creating a slight slope which she was slipping 'down' IYSWIM. We have put a few towels under the head end to balance out the slope (if anything create a very slight slope towards her feet - helps with a cold too). She now tends to stay in bed more nights than not. As she is staying under the covers she doesn't twist either.

BTW bumpers are not suitable for babies under a certain age (1yr I think).

BTW she is now 4 months. We put the towels under head end about 1 month ago - a few days after she first went in cot & started twisting.

I know this sounds wierd, I would not believe it myself, but I have had friends that have tried it and it seems to work
Try turning the cot 90 degrees so dds head end of the cot is pointing the same way as dds head ends up at 5am... it is something to do with natural meridiens or fung shui or the like
its worth a try!

Nell that reminds me of a twin tale I heard - so I believe you.

Twins decided to play a trick on parents & waited to be lifted into the wrong cots (they were about 2yrs old), where they were snuggly tucked in. Cots were end to end & twins normaly slept Feet to feet. When parents went to bed they found that both twins had turned 180degrees since being tucked in (i.e. head to head). In morning they realised they were in the 'wrong' cots & had rotated to take up the direction that they normally would in their own cots.

Reading that back I am not convinced that it makes sense - but I hope you get the idea.

We did the sleeping bag thing and it worked but I will try the cot turning thing cos I think you might be right about feng shui thing. dp will think I'm bonkers!!!

manuka, i'd try a growbag and i'd roll up a couple of towels, taped them up and put them on either side of her. that should stop any nocturnal meanderings...

Bamzooki · 10/09/2006 13:47

My ds was a very vigorous 'wanderer' in his cot even in a grobag, so in order to stop being woken at regular intervals, i rolled up cellular blankets into long sausages and tied them to the cot bars at intervals all the way round, to create a soft bumper edge to the mattress. That way he still wriggled all over but never ended up with his head wedged against the wooden bars. Worked a treat!
