What time do you put your 4 week old to bed?

DD is 4 weeks old and I usually give her bath and last feed at around 10.30pm. She usually goes 3-4 hours between feeds, she's EBF. recently I struggle to keep her awake after 9pm. So what time do you or did you put your newborns down to 'bed' and what routine did you do?

DD2 is 5 weeks old and hangs with us till we go to bed, some nights she has a bath, but not always. She cluster feeds from 5pm till whenever. She is also EBF and I will put her in her moses basket in the lounge if she lets us. I'll be ready to put her in our room from 7pm as soon as she stops needing the cluster feeds.

If you put her down at 7pm what fine does she wake up in the morning? I always figure if she goes 2 bed at 9pm & I usually go to bed at 11ish, it's only an hour before I'm up again! Confused

We didn't really do a routine at four weeks. She just went in the Moses basket and we carried that upstairs whenever we went to bed. Routine probably started round about three months.

To be honest at that age I put DD to bed when she was ready and then either went to bed earlier or stayed up later, depending on her feeding schedule. You'll probably find that over the next few weeks she is ready for bed a bit earlier so it will all adjust in the end.

I put DS to bed at 7pm - I liked to follow a GF routine and it worked for us but from being on Mumsnet for so many years I realise that this is not always the popular option Grin.

Sorry, didn't answer the question fully - if he went to bed at 7pm he would wake for a feed around 11 ish and then perhaps 2 ish - but after eight weeks or so (can't remember exactly) he was down to one feed a night and would wake around 6.30am - which was the time DH and I get up anyway.

At 4 weeks she cluster fed until midnight and beyond. Bedtime was when she finally stopped screaming for more!

There was definitely no bedtime at 4 weeks! She was hardly awake

Remember it's the fourth trimester so snuggles and just go with the flow - any routine at this age is just for you - so whatever fits for everyone. My dd was often up late and so it made the not leaving her put of earshot for sleeps easier as we went to bed together. They nap so much you just need to sleep when the baby sleeps, try not to stress about housework or parenting and enjoy, enjoy, enjoy! Babies are great at teaching you the essentials - everything else will fall into place. A routine by 6-9 months is helpful but not essential. Their sleep and development changes so much so quickly it's a constantly moving target! Very jealous of your snuggly newborn Smile Congrats Thanks

Was about 9pm at that age. Gradually manipulated the routine forwards until we got to 7pm by 12 weeks.
