Ok so baby nugget is 4 weeks old now Smile but in the last week I've had such problems with my bowels. Everyone told Mr to expect it to hurt the 1st couple times I went after birth but I had no issues despite the fear. In the last week though it's hurt so much and I've even bled, now I'm scared to go because I know it's going to hurt Sad what can I take to make it easier/less painful? I'm breastfeeding so don't know what I'm allowed to take sorry for tmi Blush

Are you drinking enough water and eating enough fibre? May be worth asking your gp about.

Lactulose and fybogel!! Best things for it!!

You can get fybogel from supermarkets down the medicine aisle and lactulose from the pharmacy!

Piles? I had this about 4 weeks after birth. For a couple of days I was in total agony, lots of blood etc.

Anusol from the chemist and paracetamol got me through. Took about 10 days though...

I had the exact same problem at 4 weeks, i put up with it for a few weeks then asked the doctor about it at my 6 week checkup. She said it was an anal fissure and prescribed me Fybogel and a cream (anusol?). I would ask your GP about it as prescriptions are free when you're on maternity so you won't need to buy anything yourself. I have total sympathy as I was in agony, especially as I was sitting down so much feeding!

Prune juice - one glass in the morning, one at night before bed. Revolting stuff but does the trick (and means I don't have to take any medicine) - I am 6 months post partum now and still doing it - if I don't it is still painful. Been checked out by GP and gynae and both say it's very common to get these problems and just takes time. You need to allow piles to go down and the only way they do that is by not straining / keeping regular. It's an awful blo&dy nightmare and I was gutted when I realised this was going to be a problem for a while (no one warns you about this stuff) - but now its just fine as long as I drink the brown sludge!!!! (which tastes much better straight out of the fridge, holding your nose, followed by water or orange juice!!!)

When I first started bf-ing I was totally unprepared for how much extra water I needed to drink - ended up really badly constipated. Drink lots, definitely. Lactulose helped a bit - so did eating pears and kiwis!

Thanks everyone I've been trying to drink more water but I don't think the heat is helping I'm sweating it all out Hmm. I think I'm gonna have to go to the Dr I was crying at 3am with the pain, I just don't want anyone looking/touching anything south of my belly button Sad
I think it's ridiculous that women have to go through all of this! As if 9+ months being pregnant and the agony of labour isn't enough I reckon the men who made it happen should suffer this bit lol
