Poos in pants

If your 2.5 year old child poos their pants without apparently noticing or minding ... but is otherwise VERY slowly getting the hang of peeing in a potty, then does that generally mean they're not quite ready for pants or do you think it's just a case of enduring it for quite a while longer?
In addition, is there anything that anyone's said to their child in this situation, which has got through to the child that pooing in pants is NOT a good thing and not what we're working towards ... as my DD just thinks it's a case of "oops", then cleaning, wiping, new pants and no worries. Incidentally, she gets one smartie (stickers wouldn't work with this one) for a pee in the potty but has been promised 3 for a poo in the potty ...
All thoughts welcome! We're on day 3 of potty training so I'm kind of living, dreaming, breathing the whole delightful experience THANK GOD for washing machines heh.

My dd has used a potty for wees for almost a year - and in the beginning would poo as well. Not sure what happened but suddenly she would poo in pants or bedtime nappy. We didn't know how to encourage her to use the potty as she seemed to like the ritual of being cleaned and new pants (we tried promising choc for poo in the potty but she didn't care).
This week we have given her a choc button for having clean pants (rather than the promise of a choc for using the potty)..random times during the day I say ' have you got clean pants? Good girl! and give her a choc.
We have had no poos in pants since we started this (although she still uses her bedtime nappy).
Day 3 is very early on though, so try to take it easy

My ds is 2.5 also and weve been training him for about 4 weeks now. He took to the potty almost straight away and 9 out of 10 times wees on his potty but like your dd doesnt seem to acnowledge when he needs a pooh and more often than not hell pooh in his pants. I put a nappy on him still for his naps and night time and he usualy wakes up dirty. Hes poohed once on his potty and was so surprised when I asked him if hed done it (in an excited praising voice) he looked realy worried and said 'no'. So the best thing to do is every time they pooh their pants keep emphasising they should ask to use the potty. But whatever you do dont tell them off for it or you could be at it forever.
