Baby throwing up in car

DD (10 mo) has recently been throwing up every time we take her out in the car. I assume it is motion sickness, though she was always ok in the car until recently so not sure why it has suddenly come on now. Does anyone have any tips? She is still in a rear facing seat and I was wondering if things might improve if we change her to a forward facing seat? I would prefer her to stay rear facing as long as possible (she has another inch or so to go before her head reaches the top of her current seat but she is over the minimum weight for the next category of seat) but it is getting very tiresome having to stop for a full clothing change 20 minutes into every journey!

Could be the heat in the car? New strong smelling air freshener? Do you feed her shortly before travelling? Combination of these make me feel nauseous in a car.

I suffer from motion sickness and travelling backward, like in a train, is guaranteed to make me feel queasy. So does all the things mentioned by the previous poster, as well as cigarette smoke and winding roads.

Hi, our 2 yr old suddenly started being travel sick at about 10 months too and she still is just as bad now so the seat didn't make any difference for her. Sorry.

What we have done is try to time longer journeys with nap/bed time to make sure she sleeps, we make sure she hasn't eaten for about half an hour before we travel, windows open whenever possible, little sips of water and lots of stops along the way. It is getting easier now that she can say 'I feel sick' but she doesn't always manage that in time to stop. So we still have plastic bags, wipes, towels and 2 spare changes of clothes at every outing.

We have a long journey by car and boat on Tuesday and are going to try the travel sickness bands on her wrists to see if that helps.

It's horrible thinking of them feeling so yuk at such a young age (and horrible cleaning up sick all the time!) so hopefully your DD improves with car seat change.
