Washing LL OSFA pocket nappies

I bought these nappies knowing that you can't wash them at 60 degrees, but thought I would just put in some mio fresh every few washes to keep things sanitary.

When they arrived I realised that they can only be washed at 30, and you cannot use nappy sanitiser of any kind.

Am I weird to be a bit grossed out by this? DS is still pooing several times a day, and the only advice I can find on the LL website is to wash pooey nappies separately. Obviously, the nappies have now all been pooed on at least once and DS has had a raging fever for the past five days so the prospect of washing at thirty is not very appealing.

Has anyone come up with a magic solution for this? At the moment I am just going to wash at sixty every other wash and be prepared to replace the nappies fairly quickly. Has anyone tried washing them at sixty more than once? How long did the nappies last?

Does anyone have any recommendations for pocket nappies that can be washed at sixty?

Thanks Smile

In the long notes that came with my LL OSFA pockets it said they could be washed at 60 in times of illness, I think.

I wash my LL OSFA at 60 most of the time, no problems to date.

Thanks lentilpot and ShoeJunkie.

I saw that too lentil, on the LL website, but thought it might have been intended for the two part nappies and not the pockets, which I assumed are more fragile. I guess not! I have washed them at 60 four times now, seems ok so far.

ShoeJunkie, may I ask how long you have had your nappies?

i don't have LL but have washed all my PUL nappies at 60 with no problems, and know people who have used them longer than me that wash at that temperature.

Heat does cause the PUL to degrade faster than normal, but I'd rather that (bearing in mind mine were mostly preloved and have done one child already) than potentially leaving bugs behind :)

We've been using the LL for about a year.

I always wash at 60 and only a couple (out of about 25LL pockets) have gone a bit funny at the elastic waist but hardly noticeable and still perfectly wearable. Been using them for about 6 months...

I wash mine at 40 deg and use miofresh. Oops, didn't realise I wasn't supposed to!

They're fine though - have been using for about 6 months and no signs of deterioration.

Ok, so the consensus is that it should be ok in the short term. Thanks. Smile

I do find the LL pockets consistently leak if not changed at least every two hours. The boosters don't seem that wet to me, but moisture still leaks through the PUL round the sides of the crotch. Any ideas, or have I managed to ruin them already? If I boost more they become quite bulky and tend to leak anyway, and although I try to change two hourly it would be nice for them to last 2 and a half to 3 hours when we are out and there is nowhere to change.

I've used reusables for 7 weeks and wash all at 60 degrees. All fine so far, I usually 'feed in' a around 4-6 new ones every few weeks and so far only two have had to be binned.
I think this is pretty good and am recommending to everyone!

Glad they are working well for you marina.

I have given up. I don't know whether it is because of the hot washes or if they just aren't a good fit for DS but the leaks are awful and extra boosters don't help. He has red marks everywhere and loosening them a bit makes the leaks worse.

I also didn't like the bumbles, they seem so bulky but aren't as absorbent as I expected. Nothing works as well for me as terry squares and mother ease airflow wraps. Never leaked yet.

Interesting. Inspired by this thread, I have just put my LL OSFA pockets on at 60 to see if it gets rid of the lingering niffyness. We are also struggling with leaks and red marks though, and am losing faith a bit. alteredimages, sounds similar to your problems. The red marks are towards the back of the top of the thighs, just outside the elastic line. I wondered if they were a common problem with pockets?

I'm debating trying something else but am a bit hesitant as in principle I like the LL pockets. Next step is to hang them in the rain to see if softening up the inserts helps!
