She has one before bed and first thing. Sippy cup the rest of the time. 14 months

A year with both. Couldn't wait.

Just before his 6th birthday. He has always been incredibly stubborn about milk - went on nursing strike aged 2 months and despite lots of help from BF counsellors etc., it was impossible to get him BF again. So we moved to bottles, tried numerous times over the years to get him to drink milk from beakers or cups but no, 'it tastes different' apparently Hmm. Eventually he was shamed out of it by grandparents and now he won't drink milk at all.

I qualified as a nursery nurse in 2000 and we were taught weaning was from 4 months, this was the age most babies started when I got my first job.

He is 15 months now, still has a night time bottle with cows milk, but happily drinks from a normal cup/snippy cup/doidy in the day - with a bit of assistance for the former!

I have no idea how to get rid of the night time bottle, and I'm dreading it. DD is arriving in September so not a great time for more upheaval.

I do think that they expect us to give bottles up too early in this country, considering how long babies can be breast fed for.

I see no harm in a bottle before bed, especially if the teeth can be brushed after, which we have just progressed to!

My daughter is two next month and still has a bottle for milk, but quite happily drinks water/other drinks from a beaker or cup. If I try giving her milk in anything other than a bottle and she has a nervous breakdown. I can't be doing with the battle at the moment. Bigger fish to fry!

My son was eating meals at 6 months too. And we weaned him at 6 months.

He wasn't happy on a bit of banana or cucumber, so instantly started eating what we were.

He was still on 4 bottles a day (small ones) for a month or two, but we gradually weaned him down to 1 by the time he was 1 without much bother, and he can now nap without the need for one.

6-7 months for bottles.
6 months for dummy.

Much easier than getting them off at 12 months +.

After reading this thread I'm not arsed!

Dd2 will be my last child. I'm in no rush to make her grow up

oh god I'm turning in to one of those mothers I hate!

Ds is 3.5 and still has a bedtime bottle Blush

scrivette · 23/06/2014 21:06

DS will be 3 next week and still has one at bedtime. He can give up when he is ready (or when he breaks the teat as this is the last one I have and am not buying any more!)
