Should I react to biting?

DD is 13mo and has taken to sinking her teeth into me. It isn't angry or to hurt me, she is seeing how it feels I think, she keeps biting her own arm as well.

I feel like 'punishing' her (was thinking a firm No and removing her from my arm!) is a bit harsh when she isn't deliberately being mean. Equally I don't want her chewing on the babies at nursery! Wwyd?

My DD is doing the same thing to, I think it helps her teething pain too. I do say no to her and ouch but she finds it all rather amusing and giggles away Shock

Yes, negatively.

It is not socially acceptable.

It will take a while to extinguish. But you have the right idea clearly. Firm no, and remove.

They are too young to punish as they won't understand what is happening.
Try modelling correct behaviour. Say 'kind mouth' and do kisses and demonstrate kissing your arm. When she copies and kisses you give lots of praise. This will work but takes time.
If you say 'no' she will only stop momentarily before continuing. At this age it's all about modelling behaviour.
If after a week it continues you can try cause and effect. You bite the effect is something boring happens - you get put on the floor and don't get mum. This will stop her doing it but doesn't teach her a better behaviour.
Also buy her some bracelets designed specifically to chew they are much handier than teething toys.

Thanks all. She copies quite a lot atm so hopefully modelling the good behaviour will be effective!
