Hello :-) My daughter turned 2 August 13th and potty training is going really well. Dry and clean all day at home and nursery. The only time she wears a nappy is to go to bed at night. Was just wondering how you go about getting them dry through the night? Do you just one day leave the nappy off??...is there a best age to do it?..Just wondered if anybody had any ideas or what your experiences were.

Thanks :-)

I've waited until we've had 3 dry nights in a row before doing without the night nappy.

Unless she is actually having dry nappies at night you could expect her to be in them for sometime to come. Many children aren't dry at night until 4 or beyond and that is perfectly natural. Ealry day training doesn't seem to have a bearing on it as it is more dependent on physiological changes for them to wake up if necessary.

I left my DD (now 3 years 11 months) in nappies at night until about 4 months ago as even though she wasn't drinking that much before she went to bed, her nappies were always quite wet in the morning. I decided that it was time to remove the nappies at night because all too often she was wetting the bed too and as she was on the largest size pull-up nappy I figured that I'd rather be changing her sheets with her nappy-less as at least it would be progress. I'd also mentally put a cut-off date of 4 years old on the night time nappies as that seemed to be normal among my friends and their children - even the least progressive ones!

My first attempt didn't go too well as even if I lifted her and put her on the loo at 10pm'ish, she was wetting herself at around 2/3am and waking us all up as she got upset OR she was doing really well in the middle of the night but then doing a massive pee before she was properly awake in the morning. I gave up and put her back in nappies for a couple of months which also coincided with her nappies getting a lot drier overnight. The second attempt went really well almost straight away. I explained to her that she was going to stop wearing nappies at night because she was getting too big for them and because nearly all her friends were out of them and she didn't need them any more either. I wanted to put her to bed knowing that she was not wearing a nappy and that she'd need to get up and use the loo in the night/early morning. Again, I put her on the loo before I went to bed at 10.30pm'ish and she was dry in the morning and apart from a couple of very early day accidents she's been dry ever since. The only thing is that I don't have a clue when it'll be okay to stop taking her to the loo at night but it's not a bother for the time being.

I agree that it would probably be best to start only after you've consistently had dry (or almost dry) nappies in the morning. Other than that, my only recommendation (apart from to buy those Pampers disposable bed sheets to put under their sheets to begin with) is to hope to be able to do this during the summer months as potentially being woken up a few times a night doesn't seem to be quite as bad when it's lighter later at night/earlier in the morning. Sorry this is such a long message - I have problems being concise!
