DS at 4.5 months, DD at 11.5 months

6 weeks. She was a terrible wriggler.

NorahBone · 14/06/2014 09:28

I remember being advised not to leave a baby on a raised surface after 2 months just in case. Mine was 4 months, but then he gave it a rest for a couple of weeks. By 6 months he was using it as a means to get everywhere and making nappy changes a nightmare. Only going on friends' babies, 4 months seems average but it can vary a lot and some babies don't ever roll.

The day she was born. Gave the medics a fright. She rolled over and lifted her head Grin

DS just rolled over this morning, he is 12 weeks. He's been rolling onto his side for a while but managed all the way onto his front today.

HugoTheHippo · 14/06/2014 19:07

I think DD was about 5 months, but then she didn't do it again for another month! She is now nearly 10 months, and it's still not her preferred method of moving. She is crawling and trying to walk but hardly ever rolls over!

Theyaremysunshine · 14/06/2014 19:31

Rolled onto her side from birth. Would NOT lie on her back, no matter how often I repositioned her. Took months before she rolled on her front, though it was clearly a CBA thing IYKWIM!

fledermaus · 14/06/2014 19:34

DC1 about 5 months iirc, DC2 started rolling front to back at 3 months.

AntinousWild · 14/06/2014 19:34

DD and DS both rolled onto their sides from birth but rolling reliably back to front wasn't until 12 weeks.

smokeandfluff · 14/06/2014 21:03

3 months for front to back and 4 months for back to front.

RizzleBizzle · 14/06/2014 21:14

Rolled by complete suprise to herself from front to back at about 3.5-4 months but only 2-3 times maybe. Learnt to roll from back to front at 5.5 months and hasn't really stopped since, problem is she can't roll back so immediately cries for me to turn her over again, it gets a tad repetitive :)

NutellaLawson · 14/06/2014 21:32

Ds1 rolled front to back at 3.5 months, then nothing for two months.

Ds2 rolled both back to front and vice versa at 6 weeks but now at 11 weeks he only room back to front at night because he wants to sleep on his tummy (he didn't read the leaflets on SIDS , it seems. I try to turn him to his backat night but when I check on him again he is on his tummy again . I'd panic less of I knew he could roll back but I'm not sure he can.

TODAY!

5month old daughter rolled from front to back for the first time at 10am after months of trying :)

passwordchange · 14/06/2014 22:22

DD was 10 months when she first rolled. She hit all her other developmental milestones, just rolled late. I was quite happy to have a non-roller as now nappy changes are a nightmare since she learned how to roll and crawl off.

Lostinspace1 · 16/06/2014 09:17

Just wondering if your rollers were doing this in a cot as my 5 month old is still in his crib so I think he might be too confined now?? He just need to last another month before I move him...

fledermaus · 16/06/2014 09:19

Mine did while on the floor - they didn't tend to spend any awake/play time in their cots.

Dukketeater · 16/06/2014 09:21

Could roll both ways by 6 weeks... Was a PITA

Theas18 · 16/06/2014 09:23

THere may be medical list of things like this, but your child will roll when they are ready.

This almost certainly WILL be when you leave them on the bed/sofa and there is a "thunk waaah" moment ( prepare yourself for many of these).

Or, at the HV or docs clinic watching apparently immobile large child, worrying they'll never do anything, you turn to do paperwork/find red book and they are then stuck on their front and noone knows how!

Iswallowedawatermelon · 16/06/2014 09:30

First roll around 8 weeks. No a consistent roller until 3-4 months.

TuckingFablet · 18/06/2014 07:54

just over 6 months after weeks of getting halfway there and getting more and more frustrated. she mastered both ways at the same time. now she rolls everywhere. honestly they are much easier before they learn and stay where you put them Grin
