Clothes and cloth nappies

Do any of you cloth users find fitting your child's clothes over the nappy? I've just ordered a couple of nappies as a trial, and suddenly had a panic that as well as buying the nappies he's going to need a whole new wardrobe! What's your experience?

THanks!

don't really have any problems tbh. the odd pair of pants in her size is a bit tight bit rarely really

TooTicky · 04/09/2006 16:00

Sometimes trousers need to be a bit more generous around the bum

liath · 04/09/2006 16:01

Some trousers are too snug especially more rigid material like jeans. I buy a lot of dd's babygros & trousers from cut4cloth - their clothes are very well made but on the pricey side.

Depends on the nappies... whatcha got?

Oh, and boy's clothes are normally more roomy than girls

tortoiseshell · 04/09/2006 16:19

Thanks so far - I've ordered a TotsBots nappy for nighttime, and a Rainbow tots one for daytime. Plus the Motherease airflow wrap. That sounds encouraging about the clothes. I'm guessing trousers are more difficult to fit than dungarees. Are there any particularly good high street shops?

Tesco's trousers seem to have the maternity waists!

Flamesparrow · 04/09/2006 16:36

Oh boys clothes and rainbow tots should be fine. Primark were always snug for girls clothes, but other than that, no issues.

I love H&M for little man trousers - never an issue with those and any of his nappies.

I am a big dungaree fan anyway though, so not so much of an issue. Vests you often need the next size up though or you get popper problems.

asur · 04/09/2006 18:48

I have found dungarees are the best thing with no problems. It's hard to get jeans on as the waist is usually only half elasticated so difficult to pull over the nappy. No major issues though.

Have foundvest extenders very useful though.

I usually just wear the next size up for dd2 ( but have clothes from dd1 so not having to buy anything special!) Jojo maman bebe bottoms are quite roomy and so are Next ones ( not jeans, more jersey type material)

tortoiseshell · 04/09/2006 23:08

thanks very much, feeling reassured, and quite excited now!

Everything fits apart from non-stretchy denim - if you're desperate for jeans then Bright Bots (australian make) are fab. Twinkleontheweb.co.uk sell them and they're indestructable and brilliant fitting - better than Cut4cloth IMO which were a bit snug over my teeny dd. If you can get hold of any OshKosh (also pricey but you might find 2nd hand?) then they'll last forever and are v roomy too.

hana · 05/09/2006 00:06

larger boots stores now sell oshkosh stuff

Flamesparrow · 05/09/2006 07:57

I haven't had any problems with H&M denims - they seem to go for the baggy skater look...

tortoiseshell · 05/09/2006 09:14

THanks very much everyone! We have mostly dungarees, and lots of H&M clothes, and I'm not really into jeans on babies anyway, so hopefully it shouldn't be a problem. Really appreciate the advice, thanks!

Baby gap are fairly generous as are baby jac from poundstretcher.
My lad is in cloth and hes generally in a size larger for trews than tops. tho I have been using some "1 year" shorts for him since he was 3 months!I expect to still be using them when he is 1 year. I've not got on with stiff denim or canvas trews, prefer tracksuit bottom style or dungerees.

BonyM · 05/09/2006 12:43

T L Maxx have loads of Osh Kosh cheap at the moment.

Only trousers I've had real problems with have been Mothercare, and sometimes Next.

bobsmum · 06/09/2006 18:15

Just found these which look pricey but rather tempting

They look gorgeous!

Well, we got our trial nappies today, and hurrah, his clothes still fit! He has a huge bottom in his nighttime nappy, but very cute!
