Dd has never really watched TV, not because I'm violently anti TV but I never watch daytime TV and have the radio on. The odd time I've put on cbeebies she's not interested at all and the only time she watches is if lions or tigers or other animals are on.

Fine by me but I am pregnant, struggling with nausea and it'd be nice to every so often be able to let her watch something for a few minutes - especially thinking ahead to when I'm feeding the new baby. I've looked for DVDs with farm animals or wild animals aimed at small children and can't find any. Anyone know of any or maybe I should just get Big Cat Diaries. TIA.

Barnados sell some new dvds in their shops, with alot of animally ones, and they're not too expensive.I cant remember exactly, but I think £5ish.

cupcakes · 04/09/2006 15:51

Come Outside would have been good but only available on vhs.

liath · 04/09/2006 15:56

Thanks cupcakes - it seems to be on DVD too, which is great (DH is a bit of a technology freak so no videa here - 2 DVD players and large widesceen monstrosity...).

The Baby Einstein ones are brilliant...I bought a 17 DVD set brandnew, but hongkong copies, which an english language option on E-bay for under £30...usually you would pay well over £150 for all of those!
The Baby Einstein ones have different themes to them.

Ds (19m)loves to watch baby bright. He will bring me the case and gets so excited when I put it on the dvd. You can buy these on ebay second hand too, I recently bought a video of baby bright for upstairs to keep him amused. He loves the songs/music and the shapes and movement. He has 'watched' them from around 6 months so he knows each piece off by heart.
I would certainly recommend them to any parent! They are around 20 - 30 mins long.

there's things like animal versions of teletubbies - we've had a teletubbies naimals video kicking round for years, or barney goes to the zoo, lots of that sort of thing available- have a look on amazon.

liath · 04/09/2006 17:03

Thanks everyone, really appreciate this! (so will dd hopefully, she just loves animals).

We have videos of 'Tales of the Riverbank' which ours love. Told by johnny morris, but with real animals. Cute. Not sure if you can get it on DVD though.

pointydog · 04/09/2006 17:07

Try The Wiggles. That'll give you peace. No animals though.

Alibaldi · 04/09/2006 17:08

Tractor Ted dvd's are all about real animals on a real farm. I know she's a girl, but I'm sure she'd love it. www.tractorland.co.uk

Ds hated cartoons at that age but would watch people singing (Fun Song Factory, Singing Kettle) all day if we let him. I don't think many of those would be available on DVD but there must be plenty similar, like the Wiggles suggestion.

mapleleaf · 06/09/2006 13:29

why not try getting different ones out of the library to get a better idea of which one is worth buying. our local library has hundreds of dvds, which for around £2 you can borrow for a week. baby einstein has good animal dvd's.

PetitFilou1 · 06/09/2006 14:28

Here comes a digger and Here comes a fire engine have always worked a treat in our house - and they are quite educational! We got them from Mini Marvellous but I think you can get them in a lot of places these days.

liath · 06/09/2006 19:59

Library a great idea, can't believe I didn't think of that (slaps forhead).

What about Pingu??? I love it and so does ds!!!

estobi1 · 06/09/2006 21:54

If I hear the theme tune to Balamory one more time I think I will burst!! My little girl adores it! Some educational value and peace and quiet for me when I really need it

paddingtonbear1 · 07/09/2006 15:33

We love Pingu in our house too!
DD also has always loved Winnie the Pooh. You can sometimes get some cheap Pooh DVDs in the supermarket - I got our last one from Sainsburys for 4.99.

Adorabelle · 07/09/2006 15:52

Another big nod towards baby einstein.

We have Neighbourhood Animals which is great, my dd also loves wildlife dvds especially Life in The Undergrowth. It's also a good one for you watch while sitting with the new baby.

Chuffed · 10/09/2006 09:35

dd loves the animal one of these here
