If you had two girls, would you expect a third baby to be another girl?

I would. DP and I are ttcing and I wholly expect it to be another girl if we are successful (this doesn't bother me in the slightest; I love my girls so why wouldn't I want another!). We wouldn't find out the sex at the scan anyway.

(Fwiw I also have a boy, but he has a different father).

Thank you, that was really interesting!

But... I just remembered something. Has anyone heard the theory that if you have DC close together it's more likely to be the same sex?! My DDs are less than 19 months apart.

I've barely understood a single word of this thread but found it a fascinating read! Has got me wondering about families where one gender dominates (ie mine is mostly boys).

bertie your first post fascinated me. sadly I'm too dense to understand it I wish my brain was wired this way.

The thing with probability and true randomness is that it doesn't always work like you expect. Especially in a small sample size such as one generation of a family which will maybe contain 10-20 people. Having a 50/50 chance doesn't mean that exactly half will be X and half will be Y, although the bigger the number the closer you'll get to the 50/50 ratio.

Mmm bertie you must be a maths teacher or statistician!

I am one of three girls. My granny was one of four girls. I'm pregnant with number three and have two girls. I wonder if I'm still 50/50! (Not that I care at all - all babies are welcome here :) )

I'm an English teacher :o just have a "mathematical brain" I suppose.

There could be an issue carrying boys if your granny is your mum's mum. But even so chance of 4 girls naturally is about 5% - 1 in 20 families with 4 children. You wouldn't use contraception with those odds!
