Babysitting - what's a fair rate of pay?

DD is 15 months old and just about ready to have a non-family babysitter. Happily it's her favourite key worker from nursery, who is a lovely girl - but I have no idea what to pay her and she doesn't really know what to charge Confused

What does everyone pay as an hourly rate? We're in South Wales, so it's not going to be top dollar London rates...

Thanks in advance.

I'm on south coast and pay 5/hr

Ah good that sounds pretty reasonable Smile - thanks

Just outside London and it's £4-£5 an hour for a teenage babysitter. I think around here it would easily be £7-£8 for a qualified adult babysitter, but that is nearly London prices. Will she be putting your DD to bed? That would change how much I would offer. Plus I always round up the money at the end of the night, so if we've been out just over 3 hours at £4 an hour, I'll give her £15.

Thanks. She won't be putting her to bed. I agree on the rounding up. I`ll offer £5 then. We won't be using her that often so will be good to keep her onside Smile
