Large tonsils/adenoids

My ds 14 months has recently been diagnosed with large tonsils and adenoids. He has always struggled to swallow and breath at the same time. He still has to have pureed food. He has sleep apnoea.
Finally the consultant says he will need his tonsils and adenoids out. But when depends on lots of tests and the doctors deciding what age is best. In the meantime, he has alot of pain, i struggle to get enough calories in him and he has lost a small amount of weight recently, he has alot of high temperatures and his nose and breath smells because of the trapped mucus.
I am really struggling because i can't take his pain away and I am at the mercy of the waiting lists.
Anybody had any experience of this, what is your story?

Thanks

My 2 year old has very large tonsils - she has never breathed through her nose, just through her mouth, dribbles, snores, has had tonsilitis several times, colds, etc

She managed to eat as we never did the puree stage so we don't have the same urgency for the op - the dr said they try not to operate so much these days but I wonder whether I should push for it in my daughters case. I'm also wondering about sleep apnea.

So not quite as bad - but wanted to see what others experiences were.

Once the dr said it was tonsils (I'd gone in wondering about asthma, muscle tone in face, all sorts) I coudl see with a torch at home they are nearly touching!

My DS was like this. Never latched on to the breast, took 45 minutes to drink a few ozs out his bottle, was so noisy and fidgety when sleeping, didn't take to solids well etc although the reason wasn't known then. When he eventually entered the ENT system at almost 3 I was told he would need his tonsils out. He had to have an overnight sleep monitor for his apnoea to check his oxygen sats weren't dangerously low. I was told that unless things worsened they would take them out when he was 4. As he turned 4 he had a pre-op appointment, 6 months after his previous appointment, and miraculously his airway had grown large enough to accommodate the giant tonsils Smile

I hope the same happens for you.
