Hi all.
I am pregnant and due later in year. Looking for advice on what sling is good for a newborn- preferably one I can feed in , as I have a dd only aged 1- so will have hands full!

I do have an ergo - but I wish to use this when baby is a bit older and more strong in the neck as bigger basically!

Tia

I used a Close Caboo for both DC and managed to feed in it with some practice.

I liked a stretchy wrap sling which is similar to the caboo but without the rings so you tie it yourself. Really easy to use though.

Ring slings are supposed to be very easy to feed in but IME they are better if you can get someone to show you how to use them one to one.

Thanks ladies. I shall google the close caboo.

Please think carefully before using a front sling.
I know it's rare but if you fall and you have a baby strapped to your front you will crush it. If your holding a baby and fall you automatically move it to the side. Your unable to do this if they are in a carrier.
Back carriers are much safer as if you fall backwards you usually sit first breaking the fall.
There are also rare incidents from babies suffercating in slings.
I have worked with toddlers that have had life changing injuries from them. It's rare but happens. I have never worked with a child that's had one from a pram.
I know there is a lot of support for slings and carriers and permanent injury is rare but i wanted you to know both sided before deciding.

Thanks Charlotte. Actually I was with someone carrying a baby on his back and when he fell the baby flew out the back carrier and banged her head. So I think all arrives hold risk. I have seen babies fall out a pram too actually. Thanks for your advice. Ido think everything has risks though :)

What a load of tosh Charlotte. What about tripping on a hill and letting go of the pram?

There are risks with everything. However babies have been carried by mothers for millennia.

I have fallen while carrying my DD in a sling. She was about 5 months old at the time and sleeping in a ring sling on my front. I stumbled on a broken bit of pavement and went down. Instinctively twisted so I fell into my side and put one hand out to break my fall and had one hand on her supporting her.

She stayed asleep, didn't even murmur. I had sprains and grazes. If someone falls forward they generally will use their hands to stop themselves so I think crushing injuries are quite unlikely.

And on the other hand as a nurse I have cared for a child with a fractured skull after she fell out of a pram. There are risks everywhere bit we can't live our lives trying to avoid every tiny one.

With DD I had a Moby (stretchy wrap) and a Close Caboo from birth. I found the Caboo easier and quicker to put on, the Moby has the slightly steeper learning curve of learning how to tie it but it's not too difficult. I also like that the Caboo was easy to adjust/tighten. Ring slings are also lovely for tiny babies but are a bit trickier to master than they look.

Thanks everyone. I am going to get the caboo for newborn , then have my beloved ergo for when dc is older :)

I wish it were tosh ! Unfortunately i see it in my job. It's good to make your mind up knowing all the facts. Which has happened.

KeepOnPloddingOn · 05/06/2014 07:05

Charlotte, incidentally my daughter fell out her pram yesterday! Odd but true. Thanks though.

I could not LIVE without my sling ... I have a Velcro Baby ... I infact have 2 slings.

So if I didn't use I sling I would either have to let baby cry (he's 6 Months by the way) or carry him everywhere which is way more dangerous & horrific for my back.

I cannot literally put him down for 2 mins..... screams in his buggy too!!

LONG LIVE THE SLINGS!!!
