What does your 5 month month old weigh

I'm getting so fed up of people passing judgement on dd size. She is 5 months and weighs 15lb. I keep getting told "are u over feeding her" "she's very chubby" blah blah !! Yet on the other hand people say isn't she sweet and dainty!! This is prob more a rant than anything else, she's a hungry baby, loves her milk and I've never had any problems with her, she's healthy so what!! And she still fits into 3-6 month clothes with plenty of room to spare!! Wish people would shut up or is 15lb too heavy xx

Know the feeling. My dd is also 5 months old and last time I had her weighed she was 17lb 5oz. Taking her to get weighed today actually will let you know what she is now.

I know people probably mean it as a good thing but my gripe with it is that both her dad and I are tall, I'm 5ft 8 he's over 6ft so she was never going to be tiny. And I'm a size 18, a healthy, fit (at least I was before I got pregnant) happy size 18. But it's taken me a long way to get to be like that and I'm determined that my daughter won't have the body hang ups I did growing up. So hearing my gran say hello thunder thighs everytime she sees her drives me bloody mad.

Just had a look and DS1 was 15lb 9oz at 19 weeks; he was pretty much bang on 50th centile all the time (still is at nearly 2). All people ever said about him apart from thinking he was a girl was 'isn't he long!'.

DS2 is 14 weeks and we'll be taking him to be weighed today - reckon he might be over 15lb already as he's a chunky little monkey! He tends to be up around the 60-65th centile.

Funny how they're so different - DS1 is tall, slim, blonde with blue eyes. DS2 seems quite long but much more chunky build with dark hair and dark eyes. DH is tall and slim, I'm short and fat. Hopefully the kids will be a happy medium Grin

15lb at 5 months is average.

ilovepowerhoop · 03/06/2014 13:57

at 23 weeks ds was about 20/21lbs - just before he started on solids

tmae · 03/06/2014 14:53

My DS was around 20lbs at 4 months, he is over the 99.6th centile for height and a bit between the 94th to 98th for weight

My 5mth 1wk old DS is 18lbs and I get lots of comments about how big he is, people always ask if he's 6-7mths old or more. He was tracking on the 50th percentile but has now jumped up to the 75th and is now tracking along that. I asked the HV and she said its fine, he had a growth spurt and is now on the next percentile line. I asked her if I was over feeding him (he drinks c.1 litre of formula a day and has started on some purees) and she said no - if he is hungry its fine. The issue is he was 98th percentile for length when he was born but only 50th percentile for weight - so tall and skinny, and he has been "filling out" ever since. Lots of people blame me for him being formula fed and therefore large, but in reality he is VERY healthy and tall and now he's started moving doesn't look too big. They are babies - growing so fast, that people shouldn't really comment if they are a bit big or chubby! I am only worried that when he goes to nursery at 6mths everyone will think he's a bit simple as they will be judging his development as if he's a 7-8mth old!!!

Theyaremysunshine · 04/06/2014 12:41

DD was over 19lb at 5m. Ebf. 98th centile. Long. Barely room left in 9-12m clothes.

Seriously OP, to survive this parenting lark you need to learn to smile and nod and ignore! People feel the need to find something to comment on whether it's behaviour or appearance or eating or sleeping.... It's not personal even if it feels that way.

Your dd is most certainly not overweight btw. Grin

purplemurple1 · 04/06/2014 22:30

20lb 14oz, he wad born 9lb 10oz so we got comments on how much he had grown but tracking centiles so nothing to worry about.

emmac3616 · 05/06/2014 17:34

Totally agree with theyaremysunshine learning to smile nod and ignore may well be the key to eternal parenting happiness ;-)

Singsongmama · 05/06/2014 21:20

My DS was over 16lbs....at 4 months. Like other posters...DS is really long and everyone thinks he is much older. DH is 6ft 4 and I'm 5ft 8 so he is naturally a large chap! Ignore comments!!

blondebaby111 · 08/06/2014 20:13

Thanx for replies, I think i panicked because the line that she was following inher red book she had jumped up twice on the centile, I'm average size but her daddy is tall. I shall ignore any comments I get from now on xx

Not quite 5 months (16th of this month) but he's 6.4kg, which is about 14.5lbs I think.

Tealady1983 · 08/06/2014 20:22

My dd is 6 months and around 18-20lb. I refuse to go to clinic can't stand hv. She is chunky but very healthy and doing things you would expect from a 9-10 month old x

boopdoop · 09/06/2014 11:57

My 12 week old was just weighed at 17.8lb, and is on the 98th percentile. He was 10.7lb when born.
