Calpol quantities

So I have an 11 week old who is teething and is inconsolable when pain relief wears off. I am using the teething granules, and do have some gel in case needs too. I have give him wfo dosses of calpol today, one this morning and one at 10pm... the box says under 3 months it should only be 2 doses and them consult doctor...

Whilst I obviously don't want to over medicate him, would I be ok to give him another dose in 6 hours of needed? I don't quite get if that's just two doses in 24 hours and then you can give more or what? (Similarly with the teething granules, it's every 2 hours 6 times... Is that really 6 times in 24 hours?

(If it helps he is big for his age. Was born 10lb 7oz, at 8 weeks was 14lb14oz, so will be well over 15lb by now. Is as big as many 4 month olds I know - don't know if weight plays a factor in dosages. Or if it's more about how developed fheir systems are?.

So confusing! Hate my little DS being so hysterical and so want to make sure I can do what I can to help him. Any thoughts / experience?

I suspect the 2 doses then call GP is not so much about dosages, it's more in case there is a serious issue going on that is being missed. are you absolutely sure it's teething and not something else?

Are you sure it's teething pain? He is very young so obviously can't give any indication, I'd be inclined to get him checked over. What dose are you giving him? Does he have a fever?

I'd have a trip to GP. 11 weeks is young and he sounds in more pain than teething IYSWIM. Ear infections are sometimes mistaken for teething. If nothing else GP could advise you about pain relief- I thought under 3 months calpol was only really advised for post vaccination fever???

Thanks for advice. Went to the doctors this morning. Nothing else wrong so she thinks it might be teething, and was happy for me to use calpol if needed. It's so hard to know when to go to doctors, don't want to rush at every little thing but don't want to not go when I should so it was v helpful to have your encouragement to go, and the doctor was great and made me feel if gone for a valid reason so that was good. DS has had a better day today thankfully.

Glad to hear he's had a better day. I know what you mean about the GP's you're damned if you do damned if you don't!!

Don't know if this is too late but I stage the mess
Ie. calpol at 7/8 teething powder 11/12 then ibrufeon 2/3 then calpol 5/6 then teething powder before bed.
Then you are sticking to the doses but giving constant pain relief just set a reminder in your phone or write down what you have given and when it was given so not to overdose

andwhat op's baby is too young for ibuprofen anyway.

Op, the doctor will be your new best friend! Since becoming a mum just over a year ago I've been to see mine probably more than the last 20 yrs put together! Not just for baby's health either - mine seems to have taken a battering too Confused

Glad you took your lo in. Best to check these things out if in any doubt.
