5 Month old routine?

Looking for advice re getting my just shy of 5 month old DS into a routine, or examples of your 5mo routine.

Up until now he is fed 3 hourly (7/8 oz bottles), day and night, with no other routine as such. His naps are sporadic but there is always one at 9am and that's about as structured as it gets.

Healthy visitor has mentioned weaning, but could it be too early? And would I give a purée with his bottle or in between feeds?

Oh forgot to add he normally falls asleep anywhere between 8 and 9 pm, with a dream feed between 10:30 and 11.

For weaning I was advised to give ds half his bottle so he wouldn't be too hungry, and then try him with some puree.
When he was 5 months he used to get up around 7.30, nap at 9 for 45-90 mins, nap at 1 for 45-90 mins and nap at 4 for 45 mins and bed around 7.30. he would wake around 1-2 times at night.
Can't remember his bottles/food. Think I just fed him when he seemed hungry.

DD is just over 5 months and we are following her pattern re routine. Such as it is!

Normally she is up at about 6/7, then has a feed and a nap. The rest of the day is variable but if she has less than about 3 hours of naps in total she is grumpy.

She is ebf on demand so feeds vary but she is quite needy at the moment due to the latest development stage so I let her feed for comfort as well as nutrition.

She tends to want bed by about 8pm so I do bath/pjs/book/feed night routine at 7 or so. Then she feeds 2-5 times overnight (very variable, again it's increased lately due to this needy stage).

We're waiting for a few more weeks before we start introducing solids. NHS advice is to wait to 6 months and I cba with purées!

If it helps, I had no routine despite my best efforts at 5mo but it finally started to take shape at 6mo. It sort of sorted falling into place - like you, until 6mo there was only a morning nap that was fairly reliable and the rest was free-fall. I got DS1 into a routine way, way before then, but DS2 just wasn't having it.

Hang in there. Keep a chart where you colour in the naps and it will finally start tidying itself into clear sleeps at similar times of the day. DS2 still sleeps fairly badly at night, but badly in the same way each night, IYSWIM!

Good to know I'm not the only one that doesn't have a solid routine in place. Everyone I know harps on about their child's schedules. It's nice to have the reassurance that I'm not doing a bad job!

Cookie DS is the same. He wakes roughly at the same times each night, at least it's not a surprise!

If he'd been my first child I would have blamed myself for failing but I've done it before no problem! This baby is just so different and I drove myself half-mad trying to make him conform to one routine or another. I got quite mad at him for "foiling" my attempts.

Stupid really but I found the freefall so hard to bear. Now he sleeps 8.30-9.15, and 11.30-1 and about 20 mins at 4. 30. Like I said, it happened suddenly and has been consistent for three weeks now.

I find it helps to go by triggers (rubbing eyes = tired) rather than timings. DD is very clear about what she wants and I'm quite sleep deprived so I can't really remember precisely what time she did things yesterday anyway Grin

Shameless lurking as, try as I might, I CANNOT get DS to take regular daytime naps! He's just shy 5 months and this is our day:
6.40-awake (ugh)
7-5oz bottle
745/8-solids(massive bowl of baby porridge)
830/9-nap of some random length. Could be 20min, could be 2 hours.
Then it's simply repeated roughly every 4 hours until
5pm, where he has a small dinner of solids, bath at 640, bottle at 7 and in bed for 730.
We had a breakthrough last night where he slept from 1030 (dream feed) all the way through til 640 without waking. Not holding my breath for a repeat performance tonight!!!

I'm afraid that we are in a routine, but it has happened naturally.

Baby is 5mo, bf and just started weaning. Framework is roughly awake for around 2hrs, feed every 3-4hrs

Sleeps: 8-9.30 am, 11.30-12.30, 3.00-3.30pm, 8.00pm-6.45 am (no wakes, sleeps through)

Feeds: 7am (full), 10.30 (full), 1pm (purée, just started weaning) 2.30 (half feed but as much as she wants) 5pm (half feed as before), 7pm (full)
