I'm going to attempt to put my eldest on a buggy board soon at 2.10, as she's getting too heavy for the tandem, lets see how that goes....

cedar12 · 02/09/2006 08:17

My daughter is 3.6 and I think we going to have to surgical remove it!

LIZS · 02/09/2006 08:18

Very occasionally after the age of 3 - like long day trips out such as Legoland or evenings on holiday.

dd is 3.2 and we stil use hers on a day to day basis. I don't drive and when we do the weeks shop we have to go over a very road and I couldn't hold onto her and the bags at the same. Other than that we are going to a big show tomorrow & she will be in it for that as it is incredible busy (so I've heard).

But that is all we use it for, I suppose it depends on the situation.

Raggydoll · 02/09/2006 08:38

I rarely use ours, ds is 2.10. I have to push dd in hers and the double is too heavy with them both in. my dad always takes it though when he takes ds shopping - its always full of flaky pastry crumbs when it comes back - sausage roll in buggy alert

hulababy · 02/09/2006 08:43

After the age of 3 we rarely used DD's buggy. We did however take it on holiday this year to Florida - she was 4y2m. Was a life saver with the heat and the long days.

ghosty · 02/09/2006 08:47

From about 2 and a half with DS we only used it if really necessary - eg took it longhaul to the uk when he was just 3.
DD is now 2 and a half and I do have a buggy in the car that we never use - I should sell it really. But I do have a big hefty 3 wheeler that I use daily for walks ... not because she needs it but because walking is my only form of exercise and if I am to walk quickly she needs to be in it - don't see how I can possibly get fit walking along at a snail's pace with a toddler looking at every leaf and butterfly on the way . Once I have walked for half an hour she gets out and we dawdle home.

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 02/09/2006 09:15

Jess is 2.1 and Becky is 10 months.

The double buggy hasnt been used for months! Jess cant walk too far, but to be honest, unless in town, Im in no hurry!

Jess has been in a buggy a handful of times in the past few months, as she would rather walk (even if her little legs wont carry her too far!)

I plan on getting another little stroller for her just to keep in the car, and becky has a maclaren triumph as she is no where near ready to be out of a buggy!!!

schneebly · 02/09/2006 09:16

DS hasn't been in a buggy much since he was 2 and not at all since about 2.5 - sometimes he gets very slow though!

nutcracker · 02/09/2006 09:36

Dd1 was out of a buggy by 2.5, Dd2 by about 2.9 but Ds was in his until he was about 3.6, mainly because he was a bit lazy and also because I didn't want to get rid of the buggy LOL.

Sold it at a car boot last week

schneebly · 02/09/2006 09:39

so you decided to sell nutcracker? Was it hard?

foxtrot · 02/09/2006 10:26

DD 2.8 uses hers occasionally for days out, and to the local shops when i take all three kids, just for safety really as i don't have enough hands.
Also have a buggy board for DS2 who's nearly 4 because we will have a hectic school run starting soon - walk DS1 to school at usual pace, then speed walk home with me pushing buggy and board with DS2 and DD, climb into car to drive to pre-school. Phew!

Dottydot · 02/09/2006 11:51

ds2 is 2.5 and we've been using it less and less over the past couple of months. In fact I think it's nearly ready to go to the charity shop (gulp)... I must admit on days out dp and I end up carrying him on our shoulders at times, but it still seems easier than taking the pushchair out!

chocybickie · 02/09/2006 11:58

Ds2 is 3 on Monday.
On school days we do a long walk which has to be completed in a certain amount of time. So I think he will be using the buggy till he is capable of walking at my speed for 5 miles each day. Which will probably be... never.
I'm really not sure when I will be able to go without it. But on the weekends he toddles into town with us and back and hates his buggy with a passion.

motherinferior · 02/09/2006 12:00

Chucked both of mine out some time between two and three. Although to be honest DD2, who is now three, does sometimes insist MADDENINGLY on being carried. OTOH she walks a good half hour every school morning without complaint.

MerlinsBeard · 02/09/2006 12:04

ds1 walked most places by 2. had to really as ds2 was born and i couldn't afford a new double buggy. things got slower but we get where we are going, i just havew to leave with plenty of time!! Am planning oin getting ds2 used to walking to places as well (hes now 17 months).

izzybiz · 02/09/2006 12:16

My dd is 2.3 and still in her buggy.
But thats because I want her in there!
When i have got things to do, i dont want to be chasing her around or worrying about her getting knocked over by other people.

If its just a walk to the park, or on the way home she gets to walk.

I say keep the buggy as long as poss, at least you know where they are!

nutcracker · 02/09/2006 13:00

In response to schneebly, yeah it was very hard but not as hard as selling the blankets. I did keep one but was still sad when a woman brought the other 4.

Oh well there we go.

schneebly · 02/09/2006 13:04

Aww nutty Glad you kept hold of a blanket - I would too.

rustybear · 02/09/2006 13:23

DD wsa born when DS was 2 & we had a tandem for a while, but the wheels broke after about a year & after that DS walked everywhere as I didn't have a car (this was before buggy boards were around). When we moved here playgroup was 1.75 miles away so he walked 3.5 miles a day. DD was in the pushchair until I got a car when she was 3, and I soon got bored with heaving the pushchair in & out of the boot. DS at 18 still seems to prefer to walk everywhere, while at 16 DD's favourite phrase is "Can I get a lift please?" (at least she does say plase & thanks!)

sleepysooz · 02/09/2006 13:46

Depends on how far you have to travel, I have twins 2.10 they are both ok walking and doing the school run, but if I'm going further than a mile I take pushchair with me and if they get tired they can get in it.

Every child is different, my eldest would have gone in till he was older than 4 if I'd let him, but I got funny comments after he was 3.6, but I did still use it on bus going to town, there are certain times like shopping when you need 2 pairs of hands, so its just a safety aspect sometimes!

I wouldn't raise an eyebrow to 4 year olds in pushchairs, its a personal thing and up to a childs ability and needs!

dd stopped using buggy at around dds 3rd b'day except when we are going on a very long walk (i like walking in evenings-4miles or more at brisk pace-she sleeps in buggy then)

She hated having to walk at start, but had to accept it (after 2 weeks of moaning). We did bring it on hols a few weeks ago tho, and used it every day for long walks, when in the city and when going out at night cause she fell asleep quite early.

I do use a back carrier tho (ergo) on long walks during the day at home!
