Should I switch to toddler bed?

By the time we return back to London, my daughter will be 2.5 years old. We are debating whether to buy a toddler bed for her and give crib to baby brother (who will be 9 months at the time) or buy another crib for him. Her crib, you can take the side bar off and make it to a toddler bed as well...but not sure how long it can really be used. It is an ikea crib. Should we just buy a toddler bed for her? I am just worried about her climbing out of the bed and playing when she should be sleeping or roaming the house at night! But I figure, most dont use a crib past age 3 right?

We moved DS from a cot to a bed when he was 2.3when we moved house. With him it was quite a smooth transition, and we don't think he actually realised that he could get off the (normal) bed by himself. I was 5 months pregnant with DD1 at the time.

DD1 moved from the cot to cot bed at about 2.5 after sleeping in a bed on holiday.

With DD2 the transition was anything but smooth. She went from a cot to cot bed at 2.5 and over a year later has rarely gone to sleep in her own bed since. She hates her bed and hates her room. We are swapping DS out of his big room and into the next room down, whilst DD1 and DD2 go into the bigger room together. We hope this will help.

A small victory this week, DD2 went willingly, awake to bed with a new Minnie Mouse duvet cover. However last night fell asleep on the sofa again.

We went straight to a full size single for dd1 when she was 18 months and we needed the cot for dd2

I think cot beds are a waste of money personally and dd1 was just fine in a bed.

Sorry, meant toddler bed (plus specialist size bedding etc)

Ds1 went straight into the double bed (spare bed) in his room at 2.7
I did put him or bed in his toddler bed (from a friend) but he relocated himself into the double bed in the night and has refused ever since to dog back

If bedrooms were big in London, I would get a double bed over a toddler bed. However, they are not that big and I feel like a toddler bed might be better if I do make the move...so she will have more room for floor play in her room. Right now we are staying with the grandparents for a few months...in her room there is the big double bed and a crib. sometimes she sleeps in big bed and sometimes in crib. It depends...bc sometimes she will ask to sleep in one or the other.

lkea do toddler beds that fully extend to normal bed length when needed. Could be a good place to look. Id go for that for dd and give ds thw crib.

If there is space, I'd go for a normal single bed.

Mine went into mid height loft beds at about 2.5 and they never wandered round the house in the middle of the night or fell out. They weren't meek obedient toddlers either :)

22 months, DS went from cot to double bed. We still used sleeping bags though until he was 33 months.
