Getting showered- pop them in a bouncy chair or similar and bring them in the bathroom, you can then chat away and sing to them etc.

When you're getting dressed same thing or in the middle of your bed or on a blanket on the floor. Put them in sight of a mirror or get them a play mat to play on.

I always took my DD when I answered the door (unless she was sleeping)! People were usually there to see her!!

Same as Iced. We had DS Moses basket stationed outside the bathroom (he refused to sleep in it... Whole other post!) I showered with the door open.

After a few weeks I started getting shower before my DH left for work. Did mean getting up v early but then I was out my PJs and washed for the day & meant I could sleep when my baby was sleeping rather than run round getting ready

I put him in a bouncy chair, music playing on my phone, and occasionally have to pop out of the shower to reassure him but usually he's fine... Then I out the bouncy chair in the bedroom whilst I get dressed and do hair. I have discovered that he'll feed laying on a feeding cushion in such a way that I have both hands free now, he just gets on with it, so I can do my makeup whilst he's feeding!!

Generally in crib. Easy when new born. It's when they're on the move it becomes a problem Grin. When they cry at the shower door and try to open it - then you'll have the quickest showers in the world!

Would a swing be as good as a bouncy chair? I've not got a bouncy chair yet..

I laid him on changing mat as that was in the bathroom anyway. These days he just sits on the floor with some toys. Middle of bed when getting dressed.

DirtyDancing · 24/05/2014 19:31

Moomin yes you could use a swing, anything that you can safely put your baby in is fine. My DS hated his bouncy chair so it can vary with babies. I also hated lugging it upstairs every morning for my shower so that's why Moses basket is stationed there permanently!

I get up super early while DH is home, and enjoy 30 mins to shower, poop and eat (not always that order). Then in dressed and clean even if I do sneakily get back in bed while DS has his morning nap!

DS is now 16 weeks and I've learnt that leaving him to cry for 2 mins while I quickly pee or shower won't lead to any harm. It's tough tho..! X

BertieBotts · 24/05/2014 21:04

I used to shower and pee in about five seconds flat and run anxiously back downstairs to check DS wasn't crying Blush

It's okay to leave them somewhere safe and contained and do what you need to do. It's not like you're not leaving them to scream for hours while you fanny about, they will really be totally fine while you finish your shower or have a whole wee :)

As I'm on my own most of the time I have a safe place in pretty much every room in the house to pop DS in when I'm showering, dressing etc. Car seat in bathroom, swingy chair in bedroom, playpen and pram downstairs. Hope this helps :)

I just did planned stuff while he was napping once down I'd be fairly sure I had 30 min so showering etc was fine.

Toilet, cups of tea, answer the door - leave him on his play mat or take him with you.

Take full advantage of him being sleepy and light - it gets more difficult when they are heavy and awake most of the day.
