cloth nappies

I am new to cloth nappies and still a bit in a muddle. I am using one life nappies with tots bots wraps, the only thing i find is that it is all a bit bulky. So i was thinking about cotton bottoms or bambino mio for in the day, but dont know if they are any good, do they leak, are they less bulky, that kind of thig and which ones?

I use bambino mio but find that they mark the legs, dd2 is rather chubby. But I have hardly ever had a leak and I have used them on ds and dd1 also. I have cottom bottoms wraps from a few years back and have always found them to leak beyond 2 hrs so therefore have to be changed with each nappy change whicih you don't have to do with the BMio.
My favourite at the moment is Happy Heiny using a prefold and a microfibre insert. They are cute and have had no leaks so far. These all dry very quickly.
Bamboozles although absorbant take forever and a day to dry and can be bulky, perhaps best for night time.In my experience washables are always bulkier than disposables.
I have one swaddlebee pocket nappy which is quite slim but more suitable for a toddler, and I discovered has to be washed before use (see earlier thread...).
I also use Moltex eco-friendly disposables which are very absorbant and salve my conscience a little. They aren't bulky when full because they don't have gel in them I presume.
Hope this helps.

which nappies are best? and can they be used with fleece wraps?

tots wraps are useless - the leak

motherease are the best wraps - they dont leak at all

we used to find tots nappies really bulky but we have bamboozles now and they are much less bulky and very absorbent

I agree Bamboozles and Motherease wraps are a hard to beat combination for slimness (is that a word?) and containment. unfortunately Totsbots seem to have discontinued the nappi nippa (y-shaped clip) fastening in the bamboozle and only do the velcro which doesn't give quite so snug a fit IMO. also agree that Totsbots wraps aren't the best - they're ok but the binding can get damp and wick onto clothes. I also love Wee Notions wraps. But they're a bit pricier than MEase.

Some people really get on well with prefolds (ie c bottoms/bambino mi) but otehrs find they leak or lack a lot of absorbency compared to others on the market.

Have you looked at www.kittykins.co.uk? They're worth emailing with your questions - no obligation to buy and a very helpful team who know their stuff - I've had some great advice in the past.

Try the nappy lady's advice - also no obligation to buy, but will tailor make a recommendation for you.

been on thngs like that (prob to much) and keep getting different things. Like the onelife nappies and tots bots but its the bulk around the sides. will have a look on motherease and see if i can buy a trial one.

I couldn't stand the bulkiness (is this a word) of tots bots during the day so we have switched to pocket nappies. A bit more expensive but i like the convenience!! only one thing to pack in the nappy bag. Also takes away the problem of trying to get clothes over bulky naps. We use fluffles at night with tots bots fleece wrap which i find rally good. I think you just need to figure out what suits your baby as i had to try a few different ones until i found what suited me and ds best.

I had huge problems with both cotton bottoms and bambino, but it could be down to my DCs bum shape .

I still wave the wambamboo flag for all I am worth. They are very slim, and I have had no problems with clothes fitting... I do have a son this time round though, and they seem to have bigger bums on the trousers than girls though, so if you have a daughter, it might be different?

If you want fleece wraps - bumsnugglers are gooooooooooorgeous. Oooh, or wacky wraps have the softness of fleece, but a waterproofy bit inside to make wicking less of an issue... all depends what you want from the fleece really.

littlepiggie · 02/09/2006 11:23

Got a bamboozle and a fluffle coming to try, i do love the softness of fleece but have found problems if i pull them up to much.
Have told dh that i will stop buying nappies, but only have 15, they last 2-3 days but not using them at night yet.

i've used Bambino Mio for dd since she was 5 weeks and love them. they hardly ever leak unless they're way too full and they're really comfy for her. not too bulky either, sometimes have to go upa size in pants but rarely tbh. am reusing them for ds 1 month and they're leaking alot less than they're leaking alot less than the disposables he had as a newborn and aren't bulky on him at all... barely seem bigger than the disposables

littlepiggie · 02/09/2006 13:56

not got one of those nappies yet,
I dont like the wraps that go down the legs, although i bet they are great at night.
