Babies and sun cream

DS is 4 months old, is there any sort of sun cream I can use on him or is it a case of covering him up in light clothing and a sun hat and keeping him out of the direct sun?

I read somewhere that you shouldn't use suncream until 6m. Until then it's keeping them covered and in the shade afaik.

Thank you, that's what I thought but the NHS website is a bit vague and there's lots of products marketed as baby sun cream.

We will stay out of the sun to be on the safe side.

I now live in Australia where my DC3 was born. I never used suncream on my older DC when they were babies (living in UK), but here I couldn't guarantee DD being totally shaded all the time (particularly during school runs for the older two and days out etc) and when I was concerned I thought it was better to have suncream on than risk burning as the sun here is very unforgiving! Luckily she was born in winter so it didn't arise a lot before she was 6 months old but I did use suncream sometimes.

There is a brand called Banana Boat here but not sure if it exists in UK. I have heard of people using Nivea which I am sure exists over there.

If it is your only DC and you will be staying in the UK you will probably be ok to work round not using it.

Below 6 months id aim to keep them in the shade and covered up. That said, if you are out on a walk or in an area with not much shade id use a baby high factor sunscreen. A bit of suncream is by far better than sunburn (which is extremely dangerous for little ones).

The baby suncream at Boots is suitable from birth I thought? Obviously keep out of direct sunshine especially between 11-4.
