Returning to cloth nappies after 6 month break. Advice on inserts??

I did cloth nappies with DD from 3 months to a year. At that point she was ill for nearly a month with diarrhoea, and I just couldn't face it any more. Also I had just returned to work and it was all too much. So we went to disposables.

She is 19 months now and I'd like to go back to them.

I have a set of 20 ebay cheapy nappies which are (or were) a great fit and adorable colours. I love them. However, I really struggled with leaks. Never poo so I think the fit was fine, but I would find they were wet through after only 2 hours. They came with 2-layer micro fibre inserts. I bought some bamboo inserts from little lamb to try and sort this out but they weren't great either (I used one micro fibre and one bamboo).

My friend showed me her very thick micro fibre bum genius inserts and I think I'd like to try again with something like that. But they go for £15 for only 3!! I'd need 20.

What inserts do you recommend that are good and absorbent? Is there anywhere cheaper to buy them? I am just not going to stick with this if I can't get a nappy that lasts 3-4 hours. Help motivate me :)

The hemp boosters Little Weeds. DD is 20 months and these are fab. I have had 6 hours! I use a microfibre insert with the booster.
