6 month old daily routine

Hi all

I wonder if anyone could help me work out a routine for my 6.5 month old. She had a fairly fixed routine (set by her really) from about 3-6 months of naps at least, feeds always a bit more variable. However since moving her to her own cot and introducing her to solids, everything has gone a bit haywire (plus teething...)

Obviously this is natural with all the changes but I am just struggling to fit everything in during the day now that there are also solid feeds to do and she still likes to have 6-7 milk feeds per 24 hours.

I need to incorporate:

  • breakfast, lunch and dinner
  • 3 naps per day- she is still tired after 2-2.5 hours but hoping to move this to 2 longer naps per day
-morning, bedtime and dream feed milk, plus other milk feeds during the day.

She is also getting up at about 6am- used to sleep 8-8 or 7-7 but now she is exhausted by 6.30pm so has to go to bed early but consequently rising very early too!

My dc3 is 8 months now but his routine hasn't really changed since 6 months.
6.30/7.00 wake and breakfast, cup of formula ready break or weetabix
9.00-10.00 sleep
10.30 bottle
11.30 lunch
12-2/2.30 sleep
2.30 bottle
4-4.30/5 (depending how well he slept at lunch)
5.00 tea
6.00 goes upstairs and has nappy off and plays for a bit
6.15 bath
6.45 bed asleep by 7

I got rid of the dream feed at about 6 and half months when he was established on three meals a day. But used to do it at half ten. All mine seemed to end up following a similar routine to this and it worked for us. When I first start weaning I feel like I'm continuously feeding them! If it's not a meal it's a bottle! Spoke to Hv and she was happy with what I was doing :)

Thanks pregnantagain7 - so your dc has 3 naps a day? Mine also has 3 naps but I was under the impression she should go down to 2...]]I think I must be doing lunch way too late. Haven't started dinner yet- that's the next thing on my list!

I think it depends, if he sleeps from 12-2.30 I'll leave him and maybe start the bath a few minutes earlier if like today he wakes up early from lunch time nap I'll put him down at 4. My two girls dropped their third nap by about 4 months but I just think it depends on the baby. I think if he started waking in the night, being difficult to settle at bed or waking really early I would a at trying to drop it, but at the moment he is fine.
I've given up cooking in the evening I'm 18 weeks pregnant and have developed an aversion to cooking!! Grin

That was meant to say I would try to drop it, sorry!

Meant I need to start giving the baby dinner - so far we're just on breakfast and lunch. Sympathise with not being able to face cooking though!

Think I need to help her extend her naps then- she can't stay awake for 3 hours at a time yet and takes short 30min naps so mathematically we can't get down to 2 naps until one of those changes! She is waking quite early though...

This is a "good" day for my 6.5 month old (although at the mo teething us causing things to be a bit all over the place...

7am - wake. Milk feed.
8am - solid breakfast.
9am til 10:30am - nap.
11am - milk feed.
12ish - solid lunch.
1ish til 1:40ish - nap.
3pm - milk feed.
4ish til 4:40ish - nap.
5ish - solid dinner.
6:15 - bath.
6:40 - milk feed and bed by 7pm at latest.

If we are out and about at groups, seeing friends, etc, that changes considerably, but she still tends to fit in 3 naps.
