Nappy at night?????

DD is 2. We've had a potty around the place for a week or so and she has been using it perfectly at home. Took her out today without nappy for the first time and she was great. Then I wasn't sure what to do about her nap. But I decided to keep nappy off and just cover the matress in bed mats etc. She woke up dry - hurrah!

Now what do I do at nighttime? Not sure what is the best way forward. She has a bottle of milk in her cot with her which gets her off to sleep, so they'll be no whipping her out for a last wee of the night afterwards. She always has a very full nappy when she wakes in the morning because of this.

Don't want to force her to give up the bottle but will a nappy during the night confuse her?

Any suggestions would be great.

My dd is exactly the same. She is 3 and has been out of nappies since 2 yrs. She still wears one at night, as she still fills her nappy more nights than not. I read somewhere that milk iritates the bladder so makes them more likely to wee at night, if that is the case then I am certainly leaving dd in hers as she loves her milk in bed.

I would carry on as you are, just be warned that my dd will sometimes still wet during her nap, (even tho she goes to the toilet before her naps) so you may want to continue with the towels or invest in a mattress protector for a while.

oh and it doesn't seem to confuse dd, we just explained it to her & she quite happily tells everyone "knicker for day...nappy for night"

Thanks Sancastles, the mattress protector is already in place. Will use the nappy at night though.

When do you think you will get your dd out of hers at night?

I am the first out of my group of friends to have a child so am quite clueless on this subject. Do most 3 year olds wear nappies at night?

I think 3 is still young for night time, or is in my experience. In summer (we are in Oz, so this will be Nov/Dec dd won't be able to have her milk in bed as it will just go stale at the blink of an eye (as she tends to sip it over a period of time). I will try then (also lots of sunny days for washing). As we have just moved here, I am reluctant to try any sooner as she is just settling into her new life. The dummies have to go soon too.

I have found that co-ercing her into thinking it is her idea helps alot. Am slowly telling her that as she is such a big girl, she won't need her nappies anymore. Have also started telling her that santa needs her dummies for the fairy babies, hoping by then she will give them up.

We'll see!

I would say most 3 year olds still wear a nappy at night, lots of 5 year olds do. My health visitor told me not to worry unless DS wasn't dry at 7. Boys tend to be slower but most kids continue to wear a nappy at night for some time after they are dry in the day

Ds still wears a nappy at night sometimes. He was dry at night as soon as he was dry in the day but he went through a phase of wetting nearly every night so I reverted to nappies. He isn't confused by it at all. In the morning he keeps it on until he needs a wee and then takes it off to sit on the loo. I wouldn't worry tbh, wet bed sheets are more of a nightmare!!!

Thanks for your comments, feel clearer about it now and am off to buy more nappies!

I used a different style (pull-up stuffable all-in-ones) for nights and made a point of calling them big girl pants instead of nappies. Nappies were banned from the start of potty training so there was no confusion. Took about 6months before I actually realised she was dry at night.
